about me

I was born in Surrey, and now live in Herstmonceux, East Sussex, in a 14th century Wealden Hall House. I’m married with two sons.

My father was a well known writer; mainly of novels and biographies, although he also wrote several screenplays. He was also a regular contributor to BBC Radio drama (including Mrs Dale’s Diary!), and a founding writer for the Eagle comic.

Much of my early life was hampered by Dyslexia, although I now consider the lateral view this condition can give to be an advantage. I’ve been writing professionally for over twenty years with work covering broadcast comedy (commissioned to BBC Light Entertainment for 3 years), periodicals, children’s stories, television and the stage. I am also a regular contributor to nautical magazines and newsletters.

My interests include the British Navy 1793-1815 and the RNVR during WW2. I regularly give talks to groups and organizations and am a member of The Nelson Society, The Historical Maritime Society and the Society for Nautical Research. I also enjoy Jazz, swing and big band music from 1930-1950 (I’ve played trombone for over 40 years), sailing, old SAAB convertibles and badgers.

I'll be taking my book down shortly as a publisher has offered a contract, but will retain my "profile" and continue to read and back suitable work.

Yes this works; good hard hitting dialogue, a story that truly moves and skilfully drawn, authentic, characters. Watch out for occasional slips – contradiction in the forth line of dialogue (“I did,” [do?] he smiled simply. “But no one else does”), and over use of adjectives/adverbs. Nothing a b... view book

Great opening, (although I felt turn/turned was over used), this has excellent mixture of mystery and shock, with not a little humour. The story develops well, and is totally void of that patronising voice that seems to haunt this genre. Ideal Y/A entertainment, and very easy to back. view book

I've just put a post up in a forum recommending this book - it deserves more attention. (Mine has been taken by a publisher, so I am not canvassing support!). view book

There is some excellent writing here; the description of the morning on the beach is really first rate. On the negative side, I felt the poems were too long, and broke up the narrative with a jolt. The prologue should also be clearly indicated. You let yourself down a little by reverting to clichés:... view book
