about me

Scientist, musician, teller of bad jokes and writer of sorts.

My book's a bit of a mess at the moment - but I think the first 5 chapters should make sense. After that there are chapters missing and bits not edited etc so it might get a bit confusing. I'm still working on things as and when I get the time.

I'm not interested in getting backings - seriously.

Back or not, as is your wont. It won't influence me one way or another. What I DO want is honest opinion. Did you like it? Did it draw you in? Did you want to read more? Where have I gone wrong? Is it so bad you don't even want to comment?

I'm not here to play the ranking game - I just want honest reader feedback.

On This Rock

Simon J.D. Phoenix

A game of hide and seek that has been played since time began - and the winner gets to play God

Keeping a secret is never easy, but when the devil himself has been searching for it, you'd better make sure it's in a safe place. A deadly game of hide and seek you cannot afford to lose.

Becky, a second year Psychology undergraduate; MacAvoy, a gruff Detective Inspector; Nell, a reclusive medium, and Ben, a Franciscan monk, are about to join the game. Everything they knew about the world, or thought they knew, will be torn apart as they become players in a contest that has raged for millennia.

But the stakes in this game are about more than their personal lives. Existence itself is the prize, and Lucifer is only a black heartbeat away from winning.

Fabulous writing - really. You have a great 'voice'. Only read chapter 1 so far. It's not my kind of thing, though, and as I was reading I was kind of thinking 'what's this about?' I didn't have any sense of where you were going with this. I got a bit bogged down trying to keep track of it all. S... view book

I looked at your pitch and thought 'oh no, I'm not going to like this'. I was expecting some kind of very literary, almost experimental writing - not sure why. How wrong I was - I rather enjoyed the first chapter. I'm watchlisting because I want to read a bit more. I did think you should end t... view book

Damn, this is good. Very professional. One or two very minor things about the language I noted, but others might not. Just my personal tastes I guess, I'm no expert. Certainly nothing that a small edit wouldn't sort - and it's probably unnecessary anyway. Who am I to point out such trivial matter... view book

I'm not at all sure about the story, or using real-life characters like this - even though it is set in the future. One thing's certain though - your writing flowed. Very good indeed. Read through chapter 1 effortlessly - and having tried to get my own writing to read like this I am starting to r... view book

Michael, This is well-written with a confident, believable voice. It's a joy to read. There are a few minor niggles I have - take them or leave them. You say JF went from the most popular to most hated - the reader is assuming at this point it's because of his coming out - yet later on in t... view book
