about me

After years of corporate life, working with computers, I started to write about it all – hence the short stories in ‘Gizmonauts’, which are themed around technology’s sometimes alarming possibilities and rather more frequent pratfalls. As well as short stories, I’ve completed one full-length novel and started on a second.

Gizmonauts

David Lowe

Tales from a world of pervasive technology almost human in its capacity to annoy or alarm - perhaps it's just trying to express itself …

In the dog-eats-dog corporate world, Steve’s new boss has a novel and effective man-management style. He also lays claim to the lovely Tanya. Steve finds his integrity (in every sense) hard to keep hold of. But he Human Resources Director turns out to have his uses.

Mary’s DIY-crazy husband fills the house with gadgets. They all have a screw loose, but he is the man in charge. That is until the latest hi-tech gizmo provokes Mary to interfere and her husband to lose his temper. Who is in charge after that is anyone’s guess.

Ever been tempted, in the journey through this vale of technology, to kick the computer? Sensed that hi-tec is taking you where you don’t want to go? Wondered what the technology might feel about it?

Find here some travellers’ tales for the thoughtful, the sceptical, the enraged, the just-plain-scared.

Enjoyed the sheer pace of this, and the characters no crazier than I remember from years living in Hackney (Haggerston has two 'g's, if this is also the real place). Quite experimental in its rapid switching of characters ad locations. view book

Enjoyed the comedy - somewhere between Tom Sharpe, the Larkins and Cold Comfort Farm, but with a distinct take of its own. Nice to see the sun getting a character part of its own too. Liked the writing style and characterisation. view book

I find the story immediately appealing - well written, strong characters, and a nice line in slow-burn humour. Above all, I now want to know how it turns out. When will we get the next instalment? view book
