about me

I am a new mom which has completely changed my outlook on life. My son was born in October of 2011, and I suddenly feel like I have purpose in life.
I grew up in Minnesota, but have lived in Chicago, Boston, Northampton, MA, Manhattan, Queens and Madrid. I have been writing since I got my first diary in second grade. I come from a feminist education at Smith College and have also obtained a MA in Clincial Counseling from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology and a MA in Education from Columbia University Teacher's College. Since my son was born, I have realized that life is too short to do anything that I do not love, so I have decided to pursue writing in addition to being a mom.

favourite books

I enjoy a lot of science fiction and fantasy. I did not love reading until I read Lois Lowry's The Giver and Madeleine L'Engle's A Wrinkle InTime in middle school.
I have a lot of favorite books and enjoy many genres now.
If I had to choose, here are my favorites right now by category:
Non-fiction: The Omnivore’s Dilemma by Michael Pollan
Fiction: I am Charlotte Simmons by Tom Wolfe
YA: Twilight Series
Fantasy: Harry Potter Series

Type A and Pregnant: Navigati....

Erin Neilon

Type A and Pregnant explores the journey through pregnancy, labor and parenting with a Type A personality through anecdotal stories and creative non-fiction.

Like everything else in my life, I was determined to have a planned, calculated and organized pregnancy. With a Type A personality, I have spent my life taking control of most situations, seeking organization, avoiding surprises and attempting perfection. Pregnancy, labor and parenting to a Type A is like Grand Central Station to an agoraphobic. Combining the Type A personality with our primal instincts to nurture and care for our babies creates a predisposition to develop neurosis if not managed effectively. Type A and Pregnant is about my journey as a Type A learning to adapt to this new world of unknowns, surprises and disorganization.

Georgia, I have to admit, I was a little apprehensive to read your book because I tend to shy away from plot lines that involve religion. I was pleasantly surprised; however, and after the first chapter I was hooked. I have been agnostic since college, so it is normally hard for me to relate to ch... view book

I am loving what I have read so far. I am able to connect with Catherine's internal dialogue, and your descriptions of places I have visited and foods I have tasted are flawless. Your references to current politics and technology make it relevant. I am excited to continue reading! view book
