about me

Forty-something and been writing since I was eleven when my English teacher, Bruce Ritchie, introduced me to the joys of writing poetry.

Over the years I've worked as a journalist, contributor to magazines, a book reviewer, as well as working on the editorial side.

I've also had a fair number of short stories and small collections of poetry published over the last ten years, but this is my first full-scale novel.

Songs of Bliss is available as an eBook at: http://www.smashwords.com/books/view/68893
and will be out in print in august 2011 (self-published)

You can also get free video samples and podcasts of my stories on my own website - www.clivegilson.com.

Hope to see you there one day.

favourite books

So many...

Pretty much anything by Margaret Attwood, ditto Hardy, really enjoying trips back to my youth with Tolkein and E.R. Eddison at the moment...but what would be my desert island read?

It would have to be Gormenghast from the wonderful and sometimes disturbing imagination of Mervyn Peake...

Songs of Bliss

Just how far will a father go to protect his daughter, especially when his 'protection' is so fundamentally flawed?

Just how far will a father go to protect his daughter, especially when his 'protection' is so fundamentally flawed?

Billy Whitlow, one time "Don of Doo Wop", has survived his days of drink, drugs and groupies, settling now into a more peaceful life centred on his blossoming seventeen year old daughter Bex. Revising for her 'A' Levels, Bex visits Billy one Easter but the longed-for simplicity of father-daughter happiness is shattered one night in a local club.

Billy's world becomes one of questions; Why is his daughter in a drug induced coma? Who put her in that state? What the hell will his ex-wife say and do...

I like the way this starts out. You read well and I found the hooks sinking in pretty quickly. Added to my list and backed. Also intend to come back and read some more. view book

As ever there are so many books to catch up on here, but I've had chance to read the first few pages and this is nicely put together with interesting threads and characters that make you want to read more. Clive Cincinnati Dancing Pig view book

Taken an initial look (time as ever at a premium on Authonomy) I like the style and way the opening draws you into the story; characters that have some depth and hooks that set the trap. Clive Cincinnati Dancing Pig view book

Had chance to read the opening and shows great humour, style and depth, hooking the reader and driving the story forward with elan. Hope to get time to read some more shortly. Clive Cincinnati Dancing Pig view book

Always good to find a story that draws you in right from the start. Not had chance to read a lot of this yet but definately one for further reading. Clive Cincinnati Dancing Pig view book
