about me

I am a practicing neurosurgeon from Nepal and writing has always been a part-time thing for me. My areas of interests are short stories and novels. I like to write things up based on real time experiences which will of course be dramatized. I have just finished my first novel- Across the ocean. This is a story of a surgeon, a son of a very demanding father, who goes to the US for training and falls in love with an anesthesiology resident there. I have tried to explore the stormy aspect of this relationship across the continent- comparing and contrasting the how life will be perceived from two cultures. I will greatly appreciate if anyone from this community would be kind enough to go through it and give suggestions.

Across the Ocean

Mohan R. Sharma

Anticipation, fear, hope, excitement, betrayal and disappointment in the life of a doctor in training.

A young boy having completed his undergraduate medical degree and part of surgical education in Nepal goes to America for higher training. Suddenly his life is in a complete mess when he comes across a girl. He is going through a stressful surgical training; he is completely besotted with a girlfriend; and he has a demanding father. All these happening in the setting of two cultures across two continents, across oceans. He is so excited at his evolving situation and yet so curious and at times so fearful as to his destination. He does not know how to navigate through this uncharted territory. He thinks something somewhere is sure to crash.

Hi Mark, I read your first two chapters. It's amazing- the plot, the language and selection of words quite effortlessly used! I especially liked these sentences- This can't be happening. Just can't. Because it already has. Sleep imitating death or death sleep The pot gurgled, the lid got restles... view book
