about me

I was born in the East End of London on the 3rd of August 1959 the son of a traveling salesman father and mother who was a trainee at the Bank of England.
My early schooling neither unearthed any great talent in writing nor the desire to write even though I enjoyed English Language. When I was fifteen I was discovered not as a writer but as a Mathematician which lead me to do a degree in that subject which were amongst the happiest years of my life.
Thereafter I had two full time jobs as analyst programmers in the infancy of commercial IT, but since then and to date have been self employed trying my hand at various businesses including owning my own IT consultancy and seeking funding for one or two major innovations none of which actually came to fruition.
The closest I came to discovering myself as a writer during those years were the penning of an occasional poem and the 70+ articles I have written for the poker magazine, Player Europe and the on-line site, Pokerpages.com. This was not sufficient to inspire me to take writing further.
At the beginning of 2007 in need of a shift in direction I discovered the joy of writing, penning several novels. I currently live in Bedfordshire and have over the years had six (yes 6) children whom I love dearly.

Poppy Skiffles and the Wood Tw....

Paul samuel

Twixies, an enchanted woods magic, and mystery. All of these make for a incredible tale. Meet Poppy Skiffles an unusual little girl.

Twixies, Wykks, Elifs, Gommets, Fey O’Raisles, Ochres, Whitts, an enchanted wood, magic, and mystery. All of these make for a incredible tale. But is that all that they are? Could they really exist in our world? One little girl is about to find out what lies behind the fairy tales she has been told. She will also find out that being strange isn’t always a bad thing.
Meet Poppy Skiffles, an orphan girl who comes to live with new foster parents in the mysterious old English village of Whittcombe. Poppy finds herself immersed in legends of the nearby Dwelling Wood, after hearing eight tales about the enchanted wood. Eventually she encounters the Maestifoles, mystical creatures who live there. Poppy meets and is courted by Veneficus, an evil wykk, a gentle twixie named Wizzbury Snapp, and his friend, the fey O’Raisle, Loomy-Ann.
From then on, everything Poppy does, including her attendance at the local school, is flavoured with mystery and magic. Poppy soon realises that, not only is she full of magic, but also that she is perhaps, the realisation of the ancient legend of the Magus, a cross between human and maestifole.

Standalone Farm

Paul samuel

Aliens have engineered the evolution of man for their own purposes. It is now time for the farming.

Mike Steffers is the first through the gateway, forced through by the evil Kurtz. He returns with an invention that can solve the world's energy crisis and will make Kurtz incredibly rich. The invention is in fact nothing but a Trojan horse created by the Varyan race to allow them to invade earth and take their harvest. A drunken has been reporter, Johnny Beams and a brilliant, Varyan diplomat Chi-Re-Ylleon are the only beings that can save a whole generation of earth's children from being abducted,

The book is split into three parts, the last of which is based on the Varyan home planet and includes a glossary. I have published only part 1.

This is a really good start to the book but you need to cut words and shorten paragraphs. Children (I am told) need fast paced stories. Do some work and come back to me please. Paul S view book

Im a lazy reader and for me despite its interesting origins this does not quite get off to a fast enough start. Its well written - no doubt about that and I am sure after a few reworks it will be fine. Love to reread then. Paul S view book

I love this dry writing style. You are immediately hooked by the narrative. Well done. Backed. view book
