about me

Hi, my name is Steve, I live in Westcliff on Sea Essex. I work within mental health and am a Cognitive Behavioural Counsellor. I have a big interest in horror and science fiction TV/Movies/Books - a bit of escapism counters the dayjob! My hobby is writing and I would love, more than anything else, to actually be good and get something published.
I enjoy reading, but I don't get much time, having a full-time job, working privately and trying to do my own writing, oh and trying to squeeze a life in. I mainly read horror and books on british history, I want to play my part on this site but please don't be offended if I don't read something you have asked me to have a look at :o)

favourite books

The Rats, The Stand, It, Two boys at swim, Dracula, Picture of Dorian Grey, The Hobbit, Lord of the Rings, Walking Dead (GN), Mark Billingham's DI Thorne series.

Harvest

Steve Merrifield

Within a high rise tower block strange lights are seen, spontaneous acts of violence break out and residents begin to disappear under mysterious circumstances.

Craig Digby lives in a high-rise block of flats, one of three towers that make up the Heights estate at the heart of Camden. He is striving to make a life for himself away from a stifling family business and the shadow of his dutiful and successful older brother. It soon becomes a struggle for survival. Unbeknownst to the residents of the estate, the construction of the towers and their number were influenced by a long-forgotten landmark. Lightning strikes Craig's tower and completes a ritual started two-thousand years ago.

A terrible some-thing has been created. It stalks the corridors and minds of those living in the building. In the days that follow, residents inexplicably disappear, spontaneous acts of murderous violence break out, and there are mysterious deaths. Craig and a handful of disparate locals realise the true nature of the force that moves among them. They must overcome their personal beliefs, conflicts and fears to unite against an evil that can reach into homes, control minds and corrupt flesh, for they alone realise the true nature of what is happening and only they can stop the Harvest.

The Pack

Steve Merrifield

Across London man’s best friend is biting and tearing at the hand that feeds it before disappearing into the night and joining The Pack.

DI Joe Carter is called upon to investigate the deaths of two fellow officers savaged by dogs while pursuing a criminal organisation. The case is quickly taken away from him when it becomes apparent that this is no isolated incident. Across London man's best friend is biting and tearing at the hand that feeds it and then disappearing into the night. Some-THING has come to the city. It has a presence the dogs can sense, and a powerful influence that the animals can not deny. The dogs are forming a pack that grows as quickly as the victims it creates; the dead, the injured, and the people the dogs infect with their madness. The government explains it is a mutated strain of rabies and pursues a way of containing and treating it. Joe Carter believes that is still a criminal case; that amongst the hordes of fatalities there are deliberate victims, that behind the vicious pack of animals is the passion and motive of man. Through his investigation he uncovers signs of scientific experimentation, symbols of the occult, and a shadowy criminal organisation, and finds that the truth is far more disturbing than anyone has imagined…

Ivory

Steve Merrifield

A failing artist encounters a girl whose unusually pale complexion and jet black eyes stirs his creativity, but she will lead to his downfall.

Martin Roberts has made a successful career from painting, but is finding that his creativity is slipping away - stifled by his family life. That is until he is responsible for running a teenage girl down in his car.

Miraculously the girl survives, but stranger than her lack of injuries is her striking physical appearance; stark white hair and skin, and jet black eyes. Being mute her condition and background remains a mystery, but when a black blind man arrives to collect her from hospital Martin learns that she is a prostitute and he is her pimp.

That should have been the last Martin saw of Ivory, but he finds he is haunted by her looks, she has stoked the embers of his creativity and he realizes he must paint her. He seeks her out in London's streets of vice, facing dangers of this world and another, pursuing an obsession that he learns has led to the deaths of countless others before him.

Hi Andrea, Thanks for your encouraging feedback. I take your point about the Zeus bit. For some reason the formatting is off when it uploads on here. I have tried a few times to rectify but that chapter has a life of it's own! Maybe it's possessed. Hope you enjoy it. Steve x view book

Hiya, Thanks for your comments and compliments, much appreciated! In my first draft Martin didnt come across as sympathetic at all so I did a major rewrite. Glad it paid off. If you stick it out I would love to hear what you think of him later. Thanks for shelving me. Steve view book
