When four children from very different parts of the world stumble upon an incredible secret, their fates become suddenly entwined. Jinjing, a lonely, lumbering girl from Hong Kong, Pietro, a gregarious and athletic Italian boy, Kate, a fiery redhead living in New Jersey, and Saburo, a Japanese boy struggling with a guilt he can’t overcome, all discover odd, glowing worm-like creatures that nobody but them can see.
As the creatures grow to an unbelievable size the children realize that their ordinary lives are about to take a very extraordinary turn. Their newfound pets transport them into an unparalleled journey through history and mythology as they attempt to stop four fabled fiends from conquering the world and sending everything into uncontrollable chaos.
