Vigilante

J. Moore

In a small Wisconsin town, something strange is happening. Televisions are blinking off. The Internet is failing.

Johnny Daze has spent the past several years in front of the computer playing video games. He's lost touch with his friends, he's lost his job, and as far as getting a girlfriend...well, it won't happen any time soon. But when his computer mysteriously stops working and his television soon follows suit, Johnny is forced to interact with those around him. He learns that he's hidden from reality for far too long. Will he be able to face the darkness of his past? As Johnny assimilates with the real world, he finds it more horrifying than even his violent video games.

Laura Freeman lives across the hall with her bed-ridden grandfather Xavier. She has no use for television or Internet. She believes life is about exploring the arts, writing and music. When she meets Johnny, she makes him see his potential.

But that's not all Johnny is seeing. His video game nemesis, Fallow, appears to be hunting him. Is it only Johnny's paranoid imagination or has the online war shifted to the real world? With help from his new friend Laura, Johnny must solve the mystery before it's too late.

The Bounteous Land

J. Moore

It was supposed to be a safe haven from outsiders, a paradise. But it's turning into a nightmare.

For centuries, the People of the Spider have preserved their culture. They are one with nature, friendly with their neighbors and protected from invaders. But when the shaman's son finds a gold coin in the river, he murders his father and seizes power over the People.

Life has never been easy for the People, but under the rule of the young shaman Paak, it becomes horrific. Paak orders all males to train as blood-thirsty warriors. He commands all females to become pregnant to stock the next generation of killers. He plots war against a neighboring tribe.

Joon is nearing the age of maturity. She fears her fate among the People, but has no intention of bending to Paak's new laws. While out on a gathering excursion, she is assaulted by a boy from her own tribe. In the events that follow, Joon is betrayed and banished.

Pursued by the vengeful shaman, Joon ventures out beyond the Great Maw, a series of towering monoliths. Guided by a spirit that has suddenly latched onto her, Joon discovers the shocking truth about her People and the Bounteous Land itself.

THIS BOOK IS COMPLETE AT 97,000 WORDS.

Excellent writing. Compelling characters and rollicking plot. That's why I revisited this sucker and threw it back up on my shelf. Well done. Truly deserving of the Editor's Desk. J. Moore Vigilante view book

You have a wonderful idea here. I would consider beginning the story at Dani's earliest possible age. The part in the prologue about being able to remember being born. Awesome idea. I wrote a short story about that. Start right there, when Dani is coming into the world. Talk about a hook, that would... view book

Point taken. The eff-word in the opening chapter will be deleted. Originally there wasn't going to be any cussing in this book because of the time and people of the story, as you said. But by the end, you'll realize that you were wrong about the time and the people, and it'll all make sense. That's ... view book

I think you have a great plot worked out here. I also like the point at which you begin the story, with some action happening. I'd add some dialogue, maybe a lot of it, just to keep things feeling more here-and-now. For the most part, though, good. Keep it up. J. Moore "The Bounteous Land" and o... view book
