about me

I have been writing creatively since I could hold a pen; and in drawers, folders and on random bits of paper throughout my abode are the various songs, poems and essays that I have completed or semi-completed over the years.

During my twenties, accientally tripping up into a soul destroying career as an estate agent pulled me away from writing. But then...

It lead me back to it.

For the last three years, very on-and-off, I have been working on the now completed manuscript for my first novel, More Than Bricks and Mortar. I have two more synopses, which will begin their creation next.

I don't 'spam' people on Authonomy- I will only ask you to read MTBAM if I have read some of your work, admire it and would therefore value your opinion. Likewise; I don't tend to reply to people who send cut-and-paste messages asking me to read and back their book, without first having bothered to read even a page of mine. I will, however, read, feedback and (if I like) back the work of everyone who backs me or gives me feedback.

favourite books

The Bible.
Anything by George Orwell.
Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte is my favourite classic novel.
I love crime writers such as PD James, Jonathan Kellerman and Ian Rankin; and also unashamedly read Jilly Cooper. Her characterisation is amazing, her people are real.
I admire authors who take risks and write in unique styles, like Irvine Welsh.

Elizabeth George has written, in my opinion, a masterpiece on fiction writing, 'write away', which has given me indispensable advice.

More Than Bricks and Mortar

Miranda Waters

Ruthless estate agent Jane can lie, she can cheat, but she can’t run away forever.
There are sharper knives out, and they’re pointing at her...

Jane Bailey is a single minded and ruthless London estate agent, who keeps her wine glass close but her friends at arm’s length and her men even further. Hell-bent on success, she will stop for nothing and nobody in the race to get to the next deal.

As if she hasn’t enough on her plate with the relentless sexist taunts of her corrupt and greedy boss Harvey, she gets more than she bargained for when a disastrous viewing leads to an unlikely encounter. This, along with a family in crisis, the betrayal of a friend and the unpredictable tide of the property market; threatens to turn her entire world upside down and shake it to the ground...

In a world of sniping, back-stabbing and vengeance; is there anyone is Jane’s life whom she can trust?

And in her desperate sprint towards that elusive top rung of the career ladder, will she ever turn around to realise, before it’s too late, what it is that she’s really running from?

I really like this. Reading it, I found myself relaxing (not easy!) in the scene, absorbed and forgetting everything else. The narration style works in a way that I can't explain- it's quirky and different and I can't put my finger on how. It made me miss my Nana! Her generation in my family ha... view book

Hi I really like the setting, the topic, and love the way that we do not know the viewpoint character is the Prime Minister until someone addresses him- nice touch. You seem to have a natural knack for prose, beats and setting a scene. I'm planning to come back and read more. I would say... view book

Deidrie Barlow! It's not unbelievable, I'm sure he's not the only one. It's funny and current and connects with the reader. It is tragic, but not cringeworthy I like the style, it's punchy and easy to read. Definately going to keep on reading through. Miranda view book

Hi Leila I love this, love your writing style. It reads so easily, without any pretenciousness or cliches. I can relate to your character and the situation is real. I have a friend so petite she makes me feel like a monster! I decided to back this after the first page. The mother is also a rea... view book
