about me

I am a primary school teacher of many years experience. I am happy teaching children but even happier writing stories for them to read. I have a greeting card business www.houseonthehillcards.co.uk which is proving a great success. Now I want to achieve the same success with my stories. I have a literary agent but it is so difficult to get published even when one is blessed with such support.I have self published an anthology for younger children entitled 'Down the Lane Tales' by Christine Harris available on Amazon. I still write short stories suitable for picture books but now I am developing work to suit the older age groups.

favourite books

As a child:
Beatrix Potter, Enid Blyton, Autobiography of a Super Tramp, Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, A. A. Milne poetry, Hilaire Belloc
Now for children (and the little girl in me)

For me: Anything by Edward Rutherford, Jane Austen,DH Lawrence,Lord of the Rings, Chronicles of Narnia, Classics, Lord of the Flies,Tulip Fever, Wild Swans, The Secret Life of Bees, The Woman in White, Roger McGough- the list is endless. I like anything that entertains me

Christine Harris

Part 1 of Trilogy
Billy is thirteen years old and lost his mother at an early age. Now he has to pick up the pieces.

'The drafts between the roots of the old oak tree had become unbearable. The little old man, back bent and brow furrowed, worked hard to complete his life’s most valued work. It was a treasure to be enjoyed for all time and it had to be finished before they came to tear down his beloved tree and uproot his very existence. He gave himself an occasional rest from his carving, threw down his hammer and chisel and climbed out into the daylight. This did him no favours as his anger would burn inside and his frustration would bubble over as he stamped and wept around his threatened home.' Fiction joins reality as two generations become involved with the old man who lived under the tree.

Didn't expect to like this. I looked out of curiosity. I write for children but your intelligence and talent shone through. You remind me of DH Lawrence- the obsessive details of life around you, the descriptions, the jerkiness- have you ever written poetry? You have the makings of a new age poet. P... view book
