about me

I've had poetry and short stories published and have been writing novels for years with Modrock being my first real attempt to get into print. I welcome any constructive criticism and hope you find my novel entertaining.

I am more than happy to read anyone's work and offer my honest opinion. The reason for me joining this website is to grow as a writer, if that means climbing up in the rankings then so be it, but I don't want to praise people's work just to get the same in return. My opinions will never be a reflection of my own bitterness, simply an indication of how the work has made me feel. I appreciate how much of a big thing writing a novel, and opening it up for public consumption is.

favourite books

Trainspotting - Ivine Welsh, The Lord of The Rings - Tolkien, A Million Little Pieces - James Frey, The Dark Tower Series - Stephen King, The Entire Sandman Series - Neil Gaimen, The Twits - Roald Dahl, A million and one other great novels that I've forgotten about. I also have a huge comic book collection which I love to read.

Modrock

Michael Robertson

A fantasy comedy about a small frustrated wizard that never seems to learn life's lessons.

Having more oddities than a prog rock convention and the patience of a hungry rhino has made Modrock as far from pleasant as one wizard can be. So when the Fairy Godmother's summer solstice party keeps him awake one night, he crosses a line by voicing his frustrations with venom. In spite of having the patience of a saint, the Fairy Godmother loses her temper and shrinks him to the size of a matchstick.

Modrock's story follows the small man as he leaves his home and embarks on a journey to find ultimate solitude, but it soon becomes clear that his quest for peace is as elusive as a rainbow's pot of gold and as fluid as a velcro slide. First the voice in his head takes on the persona of his most hated school teacher that goads and torments him every step of the way, then the dopiest creature on the planet moves into his cave and proves as easy to shake off as cold sores.

Dragged into events that are out of his control forces Modrock to take a long hard look inside that changes him forever.

Hi, I have just read your first chapter. I loved the dialogue between the characters and felt it really came to life when they were bouncing off one another - Especially between Morgan and Lord Guy. However, I found that when Morgan went on his hunt that the story was maybe a little too compress... view book

Hi, Great first chapter, I will definitely read more. I normally try and offer some form of criticism because I appreciate it when people do the same for me, but I don't have much to offer, I really liked it. I'll be back for more and put you on my bookshelf. Good luck. Michael. view book
