about me

As sisters, we have drawn upon our intimate knowledge of smalltown life and its many intrigues to create our story. The Long Black Veil is a completed manuscript at 88,000 words. The first of three sections (eight chapters) are included on Authonomy.

We are actively seeking representation. Please contact us at delhui[at]yahoo[dot]com

Awards/Accomplishments:
The Long Black Veil (novel): 2nd place, national Xerox Aspiring Authors competition
Slide (screenplay): 2009 quarterfinalist, Nicholls Fellowship competition (Motion Picture Academy of Arts & Sciences)

*** Update: An unexpected illness in the family has kept us away for a few weeks, but we're back at least part time right now. Please, if we back without commenting at the moment, don't be offended. It means that we read at least 3 chapters and liked the story enough to support it. Thanks! ***

The Long Black Veil

Jeannine DeLine and Bobbi L'Hu....

In the racially charged summer of 1963, Jamie Delacroix must choose between protecting a young girl and saving a black man's life.

A drifter who has spent the last decade running from commitments, southerner Jamie Delacroix finds himself stranded in a small Northern town where Calvin Lewis, an African-American musician, comes to Jamie’s aid. Calvin introduces him to Harry Novotny, a small-time gangster with a respectable business front; Harry’s bitter wife, Eve, who retains a friendship with Calvin since childhood; and Jane, the Novotnys’ bright, lonely 12-year-old.

As he wrestles with his past and his future, Jamie is grateful for the unlikely friendships he forms with Jane and Calvin—until he stumbles upon the black man’s illicit love affair with Eve. As racial tensions in the town build toward an explosion, Jamie's discovery threatens to destroy Jane's family and costs Calvin everything.

Dear Fletcher -- We only had time skim the first two and read one story, but what a story -- and wha a surprise ending to "Daniel and the Wine Stain". A hard edit is needed (for example, "his father was aloud to keep his job" should be "allowed") but that's nit-picky in an otherwise intriguing a... view book

Dear Doug -- Thank you for bringing us over to read Consequences Unforeseen (we like the title by the way -- it stuck with us). Your first chapter starts off a bit slow and felt a little bit self-conscious, but the pace and narrative pick up in chapter two and move along nicely. Bill Douglas is a... view book

Dear Sarah -- Choosing Love has an excellent pace; the first chapter in the restaurant never becomes bogged down in too much detail but you show us the stresses that Leilah faces and begin to reveal her character through her behaviors and interactions with her daughter and then her colleagues. Dear Ray -- We were hooked despite not being the usual readers for demons; your demon has quite a compelling voice, and it remains both interesting and balanced throughout the chapters you've uploaded here. The Occultus is genuine enteratinment and well-written, which is an extra bit of joy when ... view book

Susan -- Sorry for calling you "Natasha" in our comment -- we were momentarily distracted and simply typed the name in front of us! Tried to edit, and we found we couldn't. Many apologies. -- Delhui view book
