about me

Following a patchy career encompassing biochemistry, pharmaceutical sales, teaching chemistry and working as a technical writer, I obtained an MA in creative writing in 2007.
I now concentrate on writing science fiction with a satirical edge. My current project, Parasite World, also has a political angle.

Parasite World

Trevor Williams

You too can change your life: just infest yourself with a parasite! Welcome to parasite world!

Parasite world is a series of short stories set in a parallel world very much like our own. The born to rule Old Etonians are in power in the UK and the president of the USA is a Christian fundamentalist. Nothing much different there then, you say. However, in this world, the aliens landed a hundred years ago and established a colony that has spread worldwide. Not only that, the technology of this world has taken a different path from ours. Parasites are a major resource. They are used in medicine, warfare and even fashion. You can buy parasites on the Internet to make you reduce weight or to infest sales prospects to make them more amenable to your sales pitch. The Old Etonian clique and their mates are not averse to using parasite technology either: most of them have a parasitic homunculus growing out of their right shoulder. This little beast acts as an advisor, whispering in the human host’s ear night and day. The homunculus is a badge of rank. You are immediately seen as upper crust in English society if you have one. But beware, there are downsides to parasite technology. Now read on.

This is very well written and the language fits the era well. In fact the whole feel is right. The first person narrative can be hard to pull off but you do it well here and the story works. I want to read more! Note in chapter 5: discrete - should be discreet. view book

This grabs me despite the fact that I have no sympathy with any of the characters. The laconic delivery and constant changes of location and POV gives the book a filmic quality that makes you want to keep reading. Backed. view book

This looks good fun and moves quickly. The idea of a a youngster with superhero powers has always been a winner. There are a few technical things that jump out now and again: group is singular; you have used American spelling in places - curb for kerb. Things like this can be ironed out in the final... view book

The characters in this book are really great. It's good to know that a sequel is on its way. view book
