Destiny of Species

Sarah E. Seeley

A pregnant bioengineer and her husband must find a way to survive their hostile, famine-devastated world after she is turned into a mutant by eco-terrorists.

Eco-terrorists have plunged the world into a GMO famine, and bioengineer Dinah Baker has broken their Search Siege by going outside to eat fallen fruit off her plague-stricken, genetically modified apple tree. After starving for almost a week, Dinah fears she will lose her two-month pregnancy if she goes one more day without eating. But anyone caught out of doors by the Thornmint Searchers during the week-long house arrest is administered a gene therapy serum that turns them into mutants with two-inch claws and scaly green skin—and they are dissected alive as a symbolic form of torture.

When Dinah is caught by the eco-terrorists, she is turned into a mutant while her husband is left human. Now the couple must fight for survival while making ever-greater sacrifices to preserve their humanity and love for one another in their hostile, famine-devastated world—at least long enough for the baby to come.

My debut novel DESTINY OF SPECIES is a character-driven dystopian love story with a hard sci-fi backdrop.

This is still a work in progress. Please enjoy the first ~13k.

This is super, Michael. You’ve really turned this into a great action sequence, and it feels like I’m in the scene now instead of floating over it. I can feel the tension, and I think you build up the world, the characters, and the impending battle well—a little at a time. Your descriptions are so m... view book

WINGS I love your setup in the opening paragraphs. You lead us in with a few details at a time and gradually expand to show us who your character is and what the setting is—a girl at a high school who’s been having increasingly worsening headaches. Your first line is a decent hook: “At the start,... view book

I realized that you invited me to look at this ages ago, and I'm sorry I didn't come read it sooner! Your writing style is light and witty, and I love the humor, especially in the presentation of the section headings and how your "heroine" is progressing in mood (and plot too). This was fun and ligh... view book

DARK ORIGINS Hi Noelle. I love the super-hero theme here. Running from the police—that’s such a classic way to start. Miss Justice—love the name you picked for her. Read the first two chapters, and I’ve enjoyed your imaginative world and characters so far. Mechanics-wise, I like the way you... view book

SHADOW’S BREATH Hi Bethany. It’s always fun to come across newbies on this site, and I’m excited to be one of the first several to dig in and talk about your story. Read the first two of your chapters (and the first part of three). I think your opening paragraph does a great job of giving us a... view book
