about me

Sorry I've been MIA during November, but I was working on another novel for NaNoWriMo, entitled Chasing Merlin. I hit 60k words in 30 days, which was good practice for me. It's still got about 15k to go, I would say, but it's a great story. Once it's finished and polished, I'll try to get it up here as well.

The novel I have posted here, Down the Rabbithole, is my second work-in-progess, following the novel I began nine years ago and have recently discovered is not only a trilogy, but a six book cycle! (yikes!) It's undergoing major re-vamp, so enjoy Alis's snarky one-liners and contradictory desires in the meantime.

Chasing Merlin

Sarah White

"When I’d thought to search for him, I didn’t think I’d end up at a dead end.
I didn’t think I’d end up dead."

When Dyllan Carter shipped off to London to start a Master's in Medieval Literature, she expected to spend a lot of time in the library, write a lot of papers, and develop acute tendinitis before she finishes her thesis on the separation of Merlin the myth versus Merlin the man.

What she didn't expect was Emrys. After their initial crash-meeting in the tunnels of the underground, she keeps bumping into him: in the library, at her favorite cafe and on the street. He knows almost as much as she does about her subject area, and he's not even in school. His actions are sometimes awkward, and very out-of-the-blue - sometimes to the level of absurdity.

So when he offers to give her a tour of the old places in Wales - not far from his home - she can't help but wonder who fate has brought her. As they get closer and closer to the heart and home of the legends, Dyllan finds herself torn between her personal quest of finding the real Merlin and helping Emrys complete whatever is compelling his strange demeanor and persistence towards his brother's life and goals.

Down the Rabbithole

Sarah White

When a boy at her new school kidnaps her and pulls her into his dark fairytale life, Alis finds her world turned upside down.

No one has ever needed Alis for anything. So when Derrick, the popular and cocky football/soccer/track star from her new school kidnaps her and takes her to his home, telling her that he needs her help, she doesn’t know what to think. When they go down the rabbit hole into the mountain to save his dad, will Alis find a place for herself, or will she find a fairytale-nightmare? (A snarky and action-packed re-telling of Lewis Caroll's Alice in Wonderland through older, darker eyes).*Chapter 17 up*

I love the opening paragraphs of this piece. They are so mysterious, and we (as readers) get to be just as confused as Neil. It immediately aligns your audience with Neil and allows us to ego identify with his present circumstances, making the opening of this paranormal seem not only normal but or... view book

Kenneth – First, a quick review of your pitch: Your short pitch is so strong! I was instantly intrigued and worried and scared, which means my emotions were engaged. But that strength there is what makes the kind of wishy-washy outline of your long pitch a bit of a disappointment. I like the i... view book

Very Interesting opening. I'm very curious about her powers and how she can speak with her crow-guardian. Looking forward to reading more! view book

I like this so far (I'm in chapter three). I think that the use of B names for the frogs is something interesting and catchy that kids will definitely pick up on as a theme. The inciting moment (what starts the plot rolling) is very clear in Larien's appearance and vague warnging. I'm looking for... view book
