A bloody whodunit set in the 17th Century, in an isolated Mediterranean convent.
At the dawn of the 17th Century, on the remote Mediterranean island of Terracotta – home of the hermetic Convent of the Invisible God – a wooden crucifix of preternatural origin begins to bleed.
Thus Cardinal Erasca, a Vatican envoy well-versed in the authentication of alleged miracles, travels to this anchoritic pocket of Christianity, inhabited by fallen, desperate and outcast women who worship God in a manner whose very abstruseness verges on heresy.
But as the cryptic divine visitation unfolds in a series of events not of this world, the miasmal spirits of the nether realms are drawn to Terracotta, wishing to claim the souls upon it – as mystery devolves into horror – one by one.
