about me

We met by chance turned fate and became best friends while in the creative writing department at Missouri State University. Oh, when was that now? 2003? Seems like decades have ticked by since then. We have been writing partners—collaborating on novels, screenplays, short stories, and just about everything else—ever since. Writing is our passion and our dream. It's that one single thing that makes us truly, magically happy above all others.

While we are currently working on our next project, Burns Like the Sun is the first full-length novel (and the first in a trilogy) we have completed together. It is complete at approximately 110k words.

Interested agents, publishers, and readers can email us at: stafford.melton@gmail.com.

(Longer introduction posted to the Forums here: http://www.authonomy.com/Forum/posts_new.aspx?threadId=58163)

***EDIT: We've decided to upload more chapters than the original few...the prologue and first eight chapters are now up. Thanks to everyone so far who has read, commented, backed, and considered our work. It means a lot.

p.s. We do our best to provide honest, thoughtful feedback for every read we undertake. That may include constructive criticism as well as praise. If you do not want our sincere opinions, please do not request a read!

p.p.s. While we appreciate all support for our work, please be forewarned that we do not provide automatic reciprocal backings. We will try to READ and COMMENT upon the books for everyone who chooses to back us (though if we don't do so right away you may need to remind us), but we will only back books that we feel are deserving. We ask that all readers approach our work in the same spirit--only back us if you think the writing is worthy.

Burns Like the Sun

Amanda Stafford + Melissa Melt....

Is being the object of one's obsession a fantasy come true or a never ending nightmare?

Emeline Ryan—an orphan trapped forever in the beauty and naiveté of her nineteen-year-old self—first lays eyes on haughty vampire Jude Archer in London, 1854. The chance encounter is a turning point in both their “lives.” For Jude, it is love (and lust) at first sight. For Emeline…not so much. The brief moment they share sparks a singular obsession in Jude. Determined to have her, Jude stalks Emeline across the Atlantic, across the breadth of her native America, and across time.

Told through both their perspectives, BURNS LIKE THE SUN is the first book in a trilogy following the (un)lives and chaotic romance of Jude Archer and Emeline Ryan.

What a way to start a book! Caught in a twister and face smashed beyond recognition by page 2-3--you had me hooked. I also really like the tone. Your narrator has a distinct voice, one that would make her appealing to follow along beside. Well done; backed. ~Amanda Burns Like the Sun view book

This writing is clean, crisp, vivid, and precious. (Mondays are like that for me too.) I think Amanda wanted to comment first, but her Internet is out. I will leave the most room for her, but I would just like to say that I love this. I really can't think of any worthy criticism either. I'm happy to... view book

E.C.: I planned on just reading the first chapter, possibly the first two, but was hooked enough that I kept reading through chapter 3. I would have read more, but I have an appointment to get to and so must be off in a moment. I found this storyline rather creepy in an interesting way, and it's ... view book

Hahaha this reminds me of that comment I read in the forums about how if JK Rowling put HP on here, the Authonomites would have...what was the quote? "Beat the adverbs out of her." :) The prologue is purposefully vague for sure. In fact, that's the point. For magical elements, please read on... view book
