about me

I have published non-fiction books with Random House, Temple University Press, Billboard Books, and several foreign publishers. Recently, I explored self-publishing with my satirical science-fiction novel "The Big God Network" (see description below) and the results have been encouraging. I am tweaking the early chapters and wish to release a new, improved edition with a different publisher. My email is: authorjcmcgowan@yahoo.com. The book is available for sale on Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk.

If you comment on my work, I will visit your page and return the favor. I am just finishing editing on my novel, so please be patient. I will get back to you as soon as possible.

The Big God Network

J.C. McGowan

"A new satirical post-cyberpunk SF voice with elements of William Gibson, Neal Stephenson and the added dimensions of Tom Robbins." --Amazon U.K.

J.C. McGowan's science-fiction debut The Big God Network blends the wry humor of Kurt Vonnegut with the cosmic scope of Carl Sagan and the edgy near-future scenarios of William Gibson. The novel explores the clash of culture and religion in cyberspace and post-America; the search for extraterrestrial intelligence and higher powers; and the socio-cultural impact of "virtual life" on our existence, as it takes us on a wild ride through Bali, Tokyo, California, and exotic virtual worlds that range from the fantasy realm of Nigh Errant to the erotic Yabyum Palace to the evangelical Church of the Good Citizen.

Hi Scott, I had your book shelved for over a month, but forgot to leave a comment....This is a great melding of sci-fi and the Old West, and I like the characters, the description, the dialogue, the wit, all of it. Well done! --J.C. (Chris) McGowan The Big God Network view book

Tony, Nice work! A meeting of Stephen King with the Twilight Zone. The opening is cinematic and poetic, and pulls you right in. You build suspense masterfully, and I like the dialogue, such as the teasing, flirting back-and-forth between Tasha and Dan. Well done. Shelved --J.C. (Chris) McGowa... view book

Suzanne, A line dancing class as a backdrop for murder is a wonderful premise. You've got memorable characters, great humor, adept turns of phrase, and convincing dialogue. You also have a flair for detail, although I think you should have a little more action and a little less description right ... view book

Hi Jennifer, I commented and shelved this book a while ago. I would love for you to send me an email when it has been published. I'd love to buy a copy for "off-screen" reading. Cheers, J.C. (Chris), The Big God Network view book

This is turbo-charged, fuel-injected prose that just roars along. You capture high school fears and desires and traumas with disturbing precision, and the multiple POVs are handled adeptly. I sensed an influence of Bret Easton Ellis, but this has more complexity than the Ellis works I've read. S... view book
