about me

I live in South East London with my husband and two daughters. I've always wanted to write and actually did the undergraduate writer's workshop programme at the University of Iowa when I was on my exchange year.

But it wasn't until last year when a) I was made redundant from my lousy part-time job b) my husband got rid of our SKY package which meant I could no longer watch Will & Grace and America's Next Top Model on Living TV and c) that I realised there was practically nothing in my local library that I actually wanted to read that I began to write all the time.
I tend to write about very ordinary people with ordinary lives who experience something that is extraordinary for them. The majority of my work is set in South London because it's one of the most interesting places imaginable.
When I'm not writing I still work (a bit) for a market research company, I'm a school governor and general community busybody.

And The Rose Tender is my book. I hope you like it and would welcome any feedback. And if you'd like to get in touch you can email me at alisonfogg@gmail.com

The book is complete at 75,635 words but I am currently just keeping the first few chapters up here.

Thanks - and let the reading commence!

The Rose Tender

Alison Fogg

A tale of observation, speculation, gossip, lies, love and neighbours. And foxes and cats. And the trouble those doorstep chats cause...

Amethyst Place is a development of townhouses and apartments in London’s Docklands. There’s a mix of bitter long-time residents, eccentrics and the new people with money and with the security gates and the way the sound travels around the central courtyard, it’s amazing how much everyone seems to know about their neighbours. Although how much is accurate is another matter. But nobody knows as much as they think.

The House in the Corner has always been neglected until mysterious Mr Armando moves in. Suddenly everyone is talking about his garden and wondering how his roses grow so beautifully. The one person who might know is Charlotte who is seven and lives next door. She knows a lot about Mr Armando’s son and Karen and her fluffy white cats and those foxes that keep hanging around. Suddenly there’s a lot going on in Amethyst Place, but how much trouble will all that gossip lead to?

I think your details and descriptions are fantastic, you create a perfect sense of place that made me want to read on and on. Excellent tone of voice and characterisation. Backed Alison The Rose Tender view book

To be honest, its not often that novels labelled as funny actually live up to that but this is brilliant. You can't beat vulgarity, disdain and a sardonic tone of voice for a good read. Very best of luck. Backed! Alison The Rose Tender view book

I think this is very good writing, I was pulled into the story very quickly and I like the way your prologue sets a threatening ominous tone to the book. Good realistic dialogue and observations as well. Backed! Alison The Rose Tender view book

This is such an interesting subject and something I know absolutely nothing about but I was intrigued and pulled into the story. Your descriptive powers are excellent. There were perhaps a couple of occasions when I felt you could show the reader rather than tell us what was going on but I don't t... view book
