about me

I'm back from a year in France.

I have a background in Mental Health and therapy, and had a series of losses, and took a year away to think, be, recover, and write.

I'll ignore spam.
Where you appear on lists is far more important to you than to me. I'll ignore MANY messages at the end of the month.
If you back me, I promise I'll check out your book(s), but I'll only back those I like and admire. And bad grammar pisses me off.
If you want a genuine critique, I'll give one, but I don't think the incessantly positive feedbacks really count as critiques.

I've already benefited from being here.

Spiky Girl

Steve Williams

Why her? Why must she confront the darkness? But confront them she must, or her whole world will die.

.

Living a safe life in the green Building, Glyre is on duty one night when the darkness attack, and, against all the rules she, newly changed from spiky girl to a Woman of the Black, leaves the Building to defend a wounded girl from the red Building. All the Buildings are under attack by the darkness, and under the protection of an Exception, Glyre is sent into the world, in great and dread danger, first to contact the Cat Bone Lady, and then to investigate the murderous darkness. Her journey takes her back into the heart of her past, and forward into maturity. She caries with her the burden that she must succeed, or fail all the Buildings, and that without her help and her strength, the darkness will destroy the Buildings, kill the light girls, the spiky girls, and the Women of the Black, and everything she knows.

But she has to try, 'cos she's a spiky girl.

Glyre lives in a world that exists within, but hidden from, ours. She is confused, she is humane, she is hurt, but most of all, she’s a spiky girl.

The Pink Fluffy Rabbit

Steve Williams

Aisha got a present, on her birthday. She didn't know who from, and it took some undoing. But it changed her world.

Aisha lives in a rather sad, drab world. On her birthday she received the usual strange mix of presents, plus a large pink parcel, which proved unexpectedly hard to undo. She had no idea who it was from. It was just a toy. A pink, fluffy toy. But it would change her life, and the lives of her family, forever. A story for children, and for the children in us all.

'The ribbon came off with a little sigh. Aisha started trying to pull off the pink wrapping paper inside, which was also very shiny and bright and strong, and seemed to be very well stuck down. She looked very closely in case there was any writing on it. She looked all over the package, and there, in one corner, was a little label with writing on it.

What the writing said was "Aisha. Use the Wellington boots" '.

Well, (gulp), sent off my first query letter last friday. Now I just need to chew my fingernails to the quick for the next few weeks and then (maybe) start the assault on the next agent. Hmmm. view book
