about me

If Beth were to be stranded on a desert island right up there on her list of requests (along with a Man Friday to fan her when he wasn’t doing the whole hunter-gatherer thing) would be a solar powered laptop. From a very young age, when she wasn’t climbing trees and building dens, she was scribbling on a piece of paper. Her first short story was accepted for publication when she was sixteen. She figured that getting a book published was a piece of cake, wrote her first novel by the time she was nineteen, then learned the hard way that publishers weren’t lining up to offer her a deal. The need to write combined with a liberal sprinkling of bloody mindedness kept her pestering away and she had her first publishing deal in her mid-twenties with several ‘shelved’ novels collecting dust in a corner.

favourite books

I always hesitate when people ask what my favourite books are since other people's favourite books always seem far more intellecutal than mine! I'm currently reading Alison Weir's, 'The Lady Elizabeth' which is nice to slump into a hot tub with at the end of the day (not that I own a hot tub, just a tub which is filled from the hot tap).

Future Shadows

Beth Chambers

Erin becomes obsessed with a stranger who abruptly disappears. When they finally meet again he brings danger and, ultimately, destruction.

Erin Marshall soon realises that dealing with a vampire romance would be lightweight compared with what she’s caught up in. Adam Hunt is not quite as human as he at first seems, but doesn’t need an insatiable thirst for blood to be a modern twenty first century hero. In fact, he’s way beyond modern. He’s from a time when the human race is fast being replaced by half breeds intent on a new world order. Fighting a losing battle against the half breeds in their own territories Adam travels back in time. His mission? To destroy the programme that resulted in the creation of the half breeds. The problem? Adam’s father is half man, half panther and so if Adam succeeds he’ll eradicate his own existence. An added dilemma presents itself when he completely and irrevocably falls in love with Erin. Adam must now fight a more personal battle as he is forced to choose between a future with Erin and the future of the entire human race.

New Horizons

E F Chambers

Two very different women thrown together must face past demons before their future is secured. Friendship's the shining light amid the darkness of their journey.

Two strangers leave their old lives behind… Kate is running from an abusive relationship and a terrible secret whilst Alana has been moving from place to place since she was sixteen. They travel to Scotland’s beautiful west coast and find the perfect place on the Isle of Mull to open a bistro. The locals in Tobermory regard their attempts with a mixture of humour and hostility while Alana and Kate almost face ruin as the business goes from bad to worse, until a turning point comes in both the success of the business and their relationship with the local community.

But as they become increasingly settled figures from their past catch up with them threatening to ruin their happinness. Kate's path becomes dark and menacing as she faces her demons whilst Alana is shattered by the revelation of what might have been. Each woman must achieve her own resolution before the old chapter of their lives can be closed and together they can embrace the new.

I was fascinated to read that you have dyslexia since I work in this field and most of my students dislike putting pen to paper. Your first chapter shows all of the strengths typically associated with dyslexia - high levels of creativity, imagination, the ability to think outside the box, etc. ... view book

Hi Catherine, thanks for being the first person to read Future Shadows. I appreciate all of the constructive criticism. Yes, bang on about the long blurb. I was asked to provide a paragraph for my agent's catalogue and had to get something off in a hurry. I'll certainly look at it again. I'... view book

I love books that bowl along right from the opening page and this does just that. I've got a fairly poor memory and found it difficult to keep up with the switches and so would have preferred to stay with each scene change for a slightly longer amount of time. Good stuff though. view book

Thanks Katherine, I agree, it's so hard to edit oneself, every time I'm convinced it's right more are discovered! view book
