about me

Writing has been a passion of mine since I was a young girl. In elementary school, I created fairy tale stories that my school library made available to other children. In high school, following the death of my parents, I immersed myself in writing short stories and deep poetry. Some of my pieces were later published in my college newspaper.

I spent many years in management for Fortune 500 companies - yet, I always found time to write on the side. I began three novels that I never completed, simply because "life got in the way". It wasn't until 2009 (when I left my career to pursue writing full time) that, On the Big White Oak, finally emerged. What an amazing feeling it was - the satisfaction of completing my first book!

I published 'On the Big White Oak' in December, 2010, through a vanity publisher. It was made available on numerous online book retail sites. I've received great feedback so far and spend much time promoting it - I still have a long way to go. It's a lot of work - marketing your own book - but I am pleased to say that it has done better than expected.

On the Big White Oak will make its debut on the shelves of a bookstore (The Book Revue in Huntington, NY) in two weeks. Very exciting!

I am currently working on my second novel, Eris Lovely.
I welcome all constructive criticism as it is important to my growth and development as a writer. If I back you, it is because I truly believe in your work and because your writing appealed to me.

To the authors: You are not going to please everyone. Being open to constructive criticism is an important part of growing as a writer - but you cannot consume yourself with each and every comment. If you analyze your book too much and tear it apart, what made it authentic in the first place could be lost. A line from one of my poems:

"At times you are so beautiful and then my analytic eyes
begin to strip your beauty, until there's only fault and lies..."

ERIS LOVELY

Corrine Coleman

Marta struggles with her emotional inabilities as she comes to terms with her mother's death – a woman who committed murder thirty years earlier.

Marta spent her childhood in and out of foster homes after her mother is charged with murder and given a sentence of life in prison. Through the years, she grows to despise the woman whom she has painted as nothing more than a calculating and evil person. When the news of her mother's death forces her to re-evaluate everything she is, she begins to question her own sanity as well as her love for the man who has always stood by her side.

"Sometimes, in the smallest detail, we find the truth we've been searching for. The reason – the answer to it all. And suddenly, without altering the facts, the perception of reality has changed. And everything we thought we knew has disappeared."

On the Big White Oak

Corrine Coleman

In wake of a child that wasn't supposed to be, three people are forced to face their dark reality.

Adam is a man who has everything: a great career, a happy marriage and visions of the family he always wanted. When the news of his wife’s infertility leaves her heartbroken, he is helpless to save her from the despair she has wrapped herself in. Desperately trying to cope with the turn his life has taken, he makes a foolish decision that changes his life forever.

Marian, a kind, independent and lonely woman, has never stopped caring for Adam, her childhood love. After he marries her cousin, a girl she holds dear to her heart, she struggles to hide her true feelings while still being supportive of the relationship that seems meant to be. When a sudden turn of events leaves her bearing a shameful secret, she begins to find solace within the core of her mistakes.

For Delia, life without Adam is inconceivable. She is consumed with their marriage and the future she has planned for them. When she finds out she cannot get pregnant, her world begins to crumble. Caught in the middle of a complex love triangle, she battles with the depression her infertility has caused and comes face to face with her greatest fear.

Ooooh, very enticing. Keeps you wanting to read more and more! I wouldn't change anything except the pitch - and my only critique is the first sentence. I think it runs a little long. You might want to change it to something like: 'Madelyn Sinclair, a freshman in college, believes that magic, es... view book

Your writing is very good. It has a poetic quality - the kind of writing I love. And the pitch is written well also. I only read a little of the first chapter (on my laptop during a break today) , I will continue to read more later. I only have a couple of critiques: The pitch, though well writt... view book

So far very touching...moving. I've only read the first chapter for lack of time, but it definately grabbed me. My only constructive thought would be in the way the words are written. I got only a little confused with who was speaking...I had to go back a few times. Something you definately don'... view book

Excellent writing. Writing in the present tense is perfectly fine and you do it well. We can't consume ourselves with every detail of our writing and analyze it too much...we simply must let it flow and do a hard edit after. Your writing flows smoothly. I began reading and, where most of the tim... view book

How are you? Thank you so much for your comment-greatly appreciated. I just read your first chapter-excellent writing. It's smooth and detailed. The story line grabs you and pulls you in. I (who is very claustrophobic) felt myself starting to panic as Jake does, trapped inside the MRI cocoon! I... view book
