about me

**** UPDATE: I'M ABOUT TO GIVE BIRTH TO BABY No. 3 - I MUST ADMIT THAT MY WATCHLIST IS BACKING UP AND TIME IS RUNNING OUT - The main issue is that it's hard to fit my belly between the screen and the table! Best to say that I will be slower returning reads than usual, but I do keep track of promises and I will get back to you soon. ****

I thought I couldn't sit still, but now I get absorbed for hours on end by words I juggle on the screen. I thought I couldn't handle solitude, now I get itchy feet if I don't have a few hours per day alone with a story.

I used to live in London, work in the City, run for the bus, drink Starbucks and wear heels. These daysI live in a village in the Alps, responsibilities and priorities have changed; I run, but only up mountains or after the kids. And it's when I'm running that I think of the next line, the next bit of dialogue, the final twist.

My first novel is finished. I'm half-way through the second. Planning to put it on the site as soon as I can get a decent cover.

And what a site! It's becoming addictive, so much good stuff to read and people to chat to. What more does a writer want than to be read? Well obviously, that publishing deal...

A Past

Charlotte Pénet

There was a war, Jeanne was nineteen and in love for the first time. Rules became irrelevant. Sixty years on she's still suffering the consequences.

This is the story of two women.

One is English, young and alone, in London. She knows very little of her roots. She has just her mother. Her past is a blank page she wishes she could fill.

The other is French, a grand old lady, the pillar of a family in the South of France. A family of fine repute, strong on tradition. A family that believes in sharing everything. But this woman does have a past, one she has never shared with anyone. A past that weighs on her still.

They have never met.

One heavy secret brings Amy and Jeanne together. It will bind their lives. And like a stone hitting water, the resulting waves will rock all those closest to them.

For this is also a story about family...

Hi Janvier, I've read through chapter 1 and half of chapter 2. I must admit it's not quite my cup of tea. My main suggestion would be that given the topic, the pace could be faster. I found that the style of writing was a little heavy, there is too much telling. I didn't feel I was in the charact... view book

Hi Mike, This is excellent, and I rarely feel compelled to say that! Linda is a truly stunning character. Her voice drags you in, provokes compassion, attachment, and the will to know what will happen to her next. I read the first 2 chapters and will skip around some later ones to see how it unfold... view book

Hello there, This is certainly appealing stuff. Can't say I can compare it with much as I don't usually read this kind of thing (isn't that what everyone says?!) but it's well written, not shocking, just effective. What I find interesting about the storyline, and that you develop well right from th... view book

Hi Andrew, This is well written, but I must admit I'm struggling with the concept of accompanying a character on a long bar crawl through Hamburg, not quite my thing. I do wish you the best of luck with it. Charlotte P view book

Dear Sheryl, Truly gripping, excellent writing. If I picked this up in a store I would buy it. The pace is fast as it should be, the character is intriguing, the whole murder scene superbly vivid, the plot well laid etc... You're shelved of course. I wish you the best of luck with it.
