about me

I am a 35 year old Norwegian with an extensive interest in science, music, books and history. I have been in the UK for more than 13 years and currently live in Ealing with my partner of ten years.
I first moved to the UK to study, and later spent a few years composing, playing and recording music.
I have always been an avid reader, and over the last few years, I have combined this interest with my experience of writing lyrics and thereby started writing book manuscripts. My first attempt was a novel in my native language, but I realised that it wasn't as good as I hoped it would be.
Now, however, I have more or less completed a piece of work which I am very happy with: 'How on Earth Did You get Here?', a children's book about evolution and natural selection.
It is in the process of being (beautifully) illustrated by Rowan Nicholls.

I'll gladly swap reads, but please do not bother leaving messages suggesting I should add any supernatural elements to this book. I've written about nature, and I will disregard any comments containing personal, scientifically unsupported beliefs.

favourite books

The Ancestor's Tale, The Time Traveler's Wife, How the Mind Works, Watchmen, crime novels by Mankell and Rankin, The Gargoyle, Dickens, The making of the Fittest, kate Atkinson...
These are just a few of the most recent ones. I'd have to look through all my books at home to pick out my favourites.

How on Earth Did You Get Here?....

Frode Jenssen

A little book about a big thing called evolution - taking children on a guided tour of discovery though the wonders of natural selection.

Most children love to learn, as long as what they're learning is presented in a manner that satisfies their curiosity and playful way of thinking.
'How On Earth Did You get Here?' is written for children, primarily aged 10-13, who want to find out how their world actually works! Some children might not discover that they even want to learn this before they start reading a book, perhaps one that their parents have bought them. This book is in every sense also for them.
There is a real danger that many children will grow up unaware of the reality of nature, and therefore unable to fully appreciate its wonders and beauty. This book's primary aim is to help prevent this from happening, and to inspire a lifelong interest in the wonder of nature and how it affects us all. (Lively illustrations throughout)

Hello, I haven't had the time to do anything on this site for a while, but I'd like to thank those of you who have left comments. Some of them have been very helpful, although I have not yet uploaded the altered version. Also, just to respond to a couple of things: I am of course fully aware tha... view book

Hey Ariel! As you already know, I'm not big on the supernatural (haha), but I still think big parts of this are highly readable to any lover of good prose. From a lyrical point of view, I very much enjoy the way you drape elements of evolutionary psychology in mysticism. It's like Steven Pinker los... view book

Hello! Just a note to those of you who are still waiting for comments and backing; I will get to it this week, promise! Working in broadcasting means that some weeks happen to be extremely hectic, and the fact that I also have a few private projects going means that it can be very difficult to fi... view book

hey Traci! I've backed your book. I promised Jane Alexander I would check it out right away, but I really haven't had the time to read enough of it to leave a comment yet. What I have read so far does however look very good. Just got in and I'm off again in an hour. I really hope I'll have a bit ... view book

Thanks for all (constructive) comments I've received so far. I will most certainly have a look at the first chapter and make the language more in line with the rest of the book. It will be difficult, as I really don't want to alter the contents, but hopefully, a few minor changes should do it. ... view book
