about me

I'm new to writing. I just suddenly put pen to paper about 2 years ago and out tumbled a novel. now i'm hooked.

by day i run music projects and work with young people as a participation worker. that and mum to a 3 year old.

I've never belonged to a writers group or been on a course or anything like that, so it's great for me to find this website where i can talk to other writers and read their work.

favourite books

The Fire Tree

Awen

Marooned in a small seaside town, Olive embarks on an extraordinary journey that finds her fighting for her life. And for her sanity.

After a family break-up, Olive moves from London to a small seaside town in West Wales with her mother and younger brother. Plagued by feelings of anger, loss and loneliness, she begins to have a series of vivid and unsettling dreams where she is called upon to rescue a dying land. At first she fears for her sanity, but she soon finds a strange power in this double life. By day, a lonely teenage girl, trying to make new friends and to make sense of this new life. By night, thrust into the role of a reluctant and somewhat surprised hero. It's all quite good fun, until she finds herself in mortal danger in both worlds.

Hi Katherine i've come to read your book after your plug on the forum. I think you've got the bones of a good book here and you certainly have a story to tell. It does sound very autobiographical, which is appealing, but i also wonder whether it makes your voice quite reflective and that means ... view book

I've just recommended this book on the forum, so hopefully you'll get some more readers. i did say that the summary above isn't great, and i think that's true. the first bit sounds all documentary, and then it goes all slapstick. it doesn't really reflect your writing i don't think. Awen view book
