about me

I love writing!
Until about a decade ago I was strictly a playwright. My plays have been performed in all states of Australia and in four countries outside Australia. I switched to writing books and so far have two novels and a book of Navy short stories to my credit.
Both novels were e-published, I self-published one novel and my book of short stories in paperback--both did okay. I'm currently working on a book about all ships lost by the Australian Navy since the that navy was formed in 1901. This has been a two and a half year labour of love so far.
My wife and I run a theatre-restaurant touring comedy company, which is a lot of fun as well as sometimes being hard work..
I would like my books to be picked up by a publisher and--who knows--maybe this is the first step.
I also edit books, short stories and other material.
I look forward to reading lots of work on this site and hopefully contributing to it in a positive way.
Please note that I will not automatically swap backings. If you back mine I will read yours, but no guarantees are in place.

A Handicap For the Devil

Allen Lyne

God will destroy the world unless people reform. Only Jonathan, his two dwarf rabbits and a host of crazies can prevent this. Or can they?

What if all the lawyers in the world are in league with the Devil (that idea will surprise some people more than others)? What if Hades is a golf course and the Devil the chief golfer? What if one man is charged with a mission to save the world from Satan as well as golf?
Follow the incredible journey of Jonathan Goodfellow as he attempts to convince his friends, workmates, fellow boarders, train passengers and people in elevators of his crucial mission from God. You will laugh yourself silly at the incredible consequences of Jonathan's quest.
Along the way, you will also meet a host of amazing characters, including the one-eyed-one-legged Dwarf; Sampson, the black youth with no nose or mouth; Old Crone who lacks legs; Cowley who has no ears and a hump on her back, sundry lawyers, criminals, policemen, secretaries who suffer from flatulence and many others. You will also meet Jonathan's two wise and feisty female albino Himalayan-Dwarf rabbits.
The book climaxes in the last battle of Good versus Evil on Earth. Guess who wins?

Why does the severed head keep re-appearing in Jeffrey's fridge? Who is the man with the high, sloping forehead who looks and dresses like Shakespeare?

Jeffrey Case is a taxi driver who wants to play Hamlet. He does! Once! Jeffrey is called in as understudy at two hours notice and gives the most execrable performance of Hamlet in the history of theatre. Shadowy figures observe the performance. There are consequences. In a high rise apartment building a number of people reside. All of them are costumed as characters in Shakespeare's plays. The man living in the penthouse apartment looks and dresses like Shakespeare. Strange chants and imprecations come from a windowless room on the second floor. Mysterious ice cream vans arrive and depart this location. Jeffrey Case stumbles into a nightmare world of drugs, sex, magic and Shakespeare as he tries to unravel the mystery of the severed head and the two-hundred thousand dollars mysteriously left in his taxi by the beautiful redhead in the silky green dress. Is Shakespeare really alive? Who are the mysterious characters? Who is running the drug's racket in Jeffrey's hometown of Sun City?

This is a good children's yarn. Well crafted and a great story. I wrote stories for children for live performance and for television, so I think I have a good grasp of what makes children's stories work. Most younguns would be interested in this as the story grips and pulls the reader along. I'm ... view book

Your opening paras had me wondering if I should bother continuing to read. Your problem is that a publisher or agent may not read further. Find a better way into the story. Your writing is powerful and the story unfolds well. I can feel the tension in the character and that is a good thing indee... view book

Intriguing story, but moves along too slowly for me. Maybe I have a short attention span, but I think you need to get into the meat of your story earlier. Good characters and dialogue, good plot. Best with it. view book

Yeah! My kind of book. Enjoyed the read and backed. It is great to find someone else on the site writing genuinely funny material. Well-crafted funny material I hasten to add. You had me laughing from the first rejection letter on the opening page. Do you realise that you are missing a great c... view book

I like your writing style, the story and your great sense of humour. You made me laugh out loud a few times and only genuinely comic material does that to this old cynic. Your first chapter with the crow, bull, chickens and Cuthbert is wonderful. As someone that had a near death experience with a ... view book
