Yue Fei

Peter Scottney-Turbill

A budding hero. Ghosts. Horror. Deception. Murder. But who are the real enemies?

Set in Sung Dynasty China, the story is narrated by the central character - the ghost of the popular military hero, General Yue Fei, who was executed on a fabricated charge of treason. Yue Fei's ghost draws the reader into his past life and times, conjuring up numerous scenes of war, deception, fantasy, horror and love, as he and other ghosts recall the major events and surrounding circumstances leading up to his eventual demise at the hands of sinister forces within the Imperial Court of the Sung. After his death, Yue Fei became revered as a champion of national resistance in the face of foreign domination, while those responsible for his demise were viewed as traitors. Sometimes, when the curtain of night falls, Yue Fei's ghost can be heard crying in the wind, “Give us back our lands!”

While my academic work has focussed on the transmutation of the historical to historical fi... view book

I'm intrigued by your 'metallic smell of recent death' and wonder why this descripor is in the opening chapter. Many writers do "imprint" certain aspects of their lives in their novels, such as sensations, feelings and memories [Freudian, perhaps]. So, is there something of Susan here? First impr... view book
