about me

I was born and raised in Hamilton, Ontario, and currently call Toronto home. Books have always loomed large in my life; my mother is a children’s librarian, and my father was a research librarian.

During my childhood, my father collected the works of Stephen Leacock, which introduced me to a wonderful literary world of satire and humour. I saw that Leacock’s writing was not only hilarious, but poignant and absurd. My father’s hobby (or obsession, depending on how you view it) turned me on to a style of uniquely satirical fiction that has always stayed with me.

I attended Queen’s University, where I majored in Political Studies. Upon completion of my degree, I had the opportunity to travel to Asia, where I taught English in South Korea, and then backpacked across Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and Thailand before returning to Canada. This interaction with different and exotic cultures and languages left me with a strong desire to blend my experience with a work of fiction – it was on this extended vacation where I developed the plot to Beast versus Beast.

I now find myself working in Communications and Media Relations. I am engaged to my beautiful fiancé Emi (we are getting married in early-fall), and I am at work on my next novel.

Beast versus Beast

Peter Spadoni

A down-on-his-luck television writer creates a hit reality show where animals fight each other, but finds the success dangerously bittersweet.

When a washed-up screenwriter’s latest reality show turns out to be a dud, his employer hands him a difficult ultimatum: come up with a new program that will smash ratings, or be out on the street. Tony Perri writes for one of the future’s biggest Hollywood studios. Faced with the impossible task of creating a new show that will catapult the soon-to-be bankrupt network back onto center stage, Perri devises the idea of a show where ferocious animals from world over will fight one another. Lion versus bear. Crocodile versus shark. Nothing, it seems, is off limits. So off to Cambodia where infamy awaits in what is the next biggest hit on TV: Beast versus Beast. While animal rights groups protest in disgust, the network and its inner circle grows more powerful, and the ratings climb. But as the profits soar and the moral standards decline, Perri soon finds that insanity has a price.

I really do love the first few chapters of the book - we have Chloe so disoriented, so afraid...and then it gets nicely juxtaposed with her meeting Tom, who (I'm guessing) must be based off of someone you know? The gentlemanly Australian... You've got great visualizations, and I think that your ... view book

Hi Dave, Intriguing premise, that's for sure - sort of like a combination between Bladerunner and A.I. I think that Carolina's comments were really helpful, as your prologue and opening chapters flow really well. My only suggestion perhaps would be to simplify the synopsis? I wouldn't shorte... view book

Hi Crispy, This is a hilarious sendup of the education system in Britain (though I live in Canada, there are parallels), and how you ended up including an otter and dolphins - kudos. As someone who adores Brit comedy, you've got a very strong, very British voice that shines through. Highly rate... view book

Katina - like Stark's comment below, I'm not a huge chick lit reader, but your pitch grabbed me, and the first few pages are really catchy! Also, I absolutely LOVE your cover. It is totally something I would pick up as a present for a fiance or a special lady in my life. I've got you watchlisted ... view book

Hi Su, The first chapter is very interesting - I loved the pacing and the tone. I'm going to read more, and I'll share my thoughts with you then, but so far, so good - I love this type of book. You're received my backing! view book
