Dead Man's Cigarettes

Eoin Hennigan

In Providence, everyone’s a killer, everyone’s a victim, and everyone’s suspected of something.

Providence is a town riddled with corruption and violence, where crime lords rule and human life has no value. When a mysterious kid intent on revenge bursts into crime boss Raft’s hideaway, he unintentionally does Raymond Dakota a favor. Did Dakota's relationships with double-dealing boxer Cordel Evans and firebrand Mona Chase put him in this tight spot? And what part has Dakota himself played in the cycle of violence that has given this town no future?

**PLEASE READ: I've put parts of Dead Man's Cigarettes up here to test the material so far. It's not complete but I'm regularly updating it and hope to have the complete book up in a few weeks. At the moment I'm most concerned with whether the story and the plot structure works. It is important to note that this is a hardboiled crime novel told in the form of a reverse narrative. I'm looking forward to hearing your feedback. I'm also playing around with different cover ideas so these may also be changed from time to time, cheers Eoin**

Frank, this is great stuff. I read the first 6 chapters before forcing myself to stop or I'd never get my own work done. I can see why an agent wants to see it. The story is great, very well paced and hooks you in. And then there's the small matter of the writing which is excellent. I was wondering ... view book

This is great fun. The concept of a foot tickler is very original and allows for the book to be a fun read. I like the fact that you don't allow the book to take itself too seriously. The characters are great and the dialogue is very good. The scene with the figure skater in chap 5 says a lot. It ... view book

This is good stuff. The writing is very strong and you get a sense of history. Your choice of subject matter is very potent. France, recently freed from the clutches of an aggressive neighbour, attempting to influence the future destiny of its colonies. It's hard not to see the irony. Unfortunately ... view book

Hi Tom, I might be a bit older than your target audience but I really enjoyed this. The premise of children being collected is fascinating and has loads of potential. The story is good and I feel its different to a lot of the other stuff in this genre. From that point of view you're got a book that ... view book
