about me

I'm a 27 year old graduate from the University of Redlands with a BA in Creative Writing with an emphasis in fantasy fiction for young adults. I studied many authors and continue to read and study fantasy fiction for young adults. Ever since I was young I have enjoyed reading and the feeling of entering a different world with different rules and characters.

I work for an educational center that provides tutoring and intervention programs for K-12 students. I write grants and develop curricula and lesson plans, but my true love will always be fiction. I am working on incorporating my stories into a specific standards based curriculum for the company I work with. I feel it would be a great new endeavor to have students learn through my stories.

On a personal note, I am married, have 3 cats- Jack, Tom, and Tapanga, 2 dogs- Beau and Bailey, and a water turtle Shelley.

favourite books

Since I work a lot with young adult writing, my favorite books are, of course, young adult series.

Garth Nix - The Old Kingdom, The Keys to the Kingdom, and The Seventh Tower

Rick Riordian - Percy Jackson and the Olympians

Herbie Brennan - Faerie Wars

Hilari Bell - Farsala Trilogy

Angie Sage - Septimus Heap

Tears of the Rain

Sara DeLaCruz

When peace comes through destruction, choices must be made. An emotionally mysterious journey that crosses the barriers between reality and fantasy.

The children of Skyview Orphanage sit bitterly every night, listening to happy stories of places far away, worlds not their own. After being neglected and abused, dreams and imagination were all they had, until one story changed their perspective of the world. Skyler, a Woodland Pixie, discovers a decaying piece of land growing in size. Only ever knowing pure happiness, this sight brings out a flurry of emotions; sadness, confusion, doubt. Skyler soon finds herself lost in peculiar places, with even more peculiar comrades. The creatures of Endel realize they must make a life altering decision in order to save themselves from the decomposing home they once knew. What choice must they make? And will they make the right one? The children follow Skyler on her journey to fight the mysterious decay all while battling new and strange emotions. They grow curious as they begin to notice that people around them resemble characters from the story. Just imagination, or could it be true? As the children learn of the acceptance within the creatures of Endel, they themselves begin to see the need for acceptance in their own lives. And some discover the secret their newly beloved counselor has been keeping.

I love this story! I was only able to get to chapter 7 with the time I had to read, but I was really sorry to have to stop. The characters are very well developed and thought out, they are so real. The emotion you put into the story line puts me right there next to the characters feeling what they f... view book
