about me

After a few years away from the site, I hope my new work -Soundtrack to Exile creates a bit more interest than my first one, Ruins. I am an unpublished author who also writes short fiction, poetry and songs.
I do not write genre fiction, rather contemporary 'real-life' as it were. My current crop of stories revolve around the antics of a rock n' roll band on tour.

favourite books

Wide Sargasso Sea - Jean Rhys, Dubliners - James Joyce, The Trial -Franz Kafka, On The Road, The Dharma Bums- Jack Kerouac, The Catcher in the Rye - J.D Salinger, A Clockwork Orange -Anthony Burgess, 1984 - George Orwell, Things Fall Apart - Chinua Achebe, Heart of Darkness - Jospeh Conrad.

A.F.E Scarlett

21 and lost in an existence he doesn't understand, accused of murder, welcome to 24 hours in our narrator's world.

Confused, angry and lost, the narrator feels impotent in a modern world of adulthood that he cannot quite grasp. Fed up with the bile within, he decides to travel home to his favourite childhood retreat to try to make sense of things. He has witnessed a murder of which he is eventually accused, has lost all he holds dear and cannot find a way to enter the world of music that he so desperately desires. Do we laugh at him or pity him? Is the world really that bad a place? Along the way he meets a mysterious young girl and takes us through his hang ups, hatreds, experiences and opinions. The novel is an examination of society as we know it; good or ill as well as a foray into the mind and soul that poses many more questions than it answers.

Such a quick read-along feel, with a kind of modern pacing that still allows for a traditional 'classic' style approach. Of what I've read so far, it feels like a very warming read and the seeds of the plot line have been sown and so I am drawn in. It's the type of book someone like me loves to read... view book

The Greatest Man who Never Lived - I thought it was great. I have always enjoyed the idea of a different future, but it is not often you see one where events in your lifetime have changed them (mostly) for the better. Very clever idea, well put and well written. I think there needs to be more litera... view book

Very enjoyable and in the right frame set. One of the hardest things is achieving the tone and setting in a manner you have set out to do. This you do well. I'd agree with some of the other comments, particularly about language. Usually in fiction for children and indeed, most of genre fiction, the ... view book

I've only began reading, but already I'm very much enjoying the way the characters are developed, the voice and style. Reading the premise, I look forward to reading the rest. When I have a bit more time, I can give you some more useful critique, but so far so good! view book
