about me

Hello there,

I've been on this forum for a week now, and am delighted to have found it. Wish I had time to read all your books!

If you'd like to do a review swap, please leave a message on my board, and I'll put you on my list. Then I'll stay up some of these coming nights and start reading!

Who am I?

A former diplomat-turned-writer, currently residing near Geneva, Switzerland, I write articles for the Geneva Times and other publications. I am also a reviewer on Swiss national radio in English, WRS, on the Bookmark program (what else??!)

I write short stories and book reviews, and am happy to exchange honest reviews with other writers. After all, the likelihood of our books getting picked up by HarperCollins isn't high. But the likelihood of receiving helpful feedback and critique is enormous!

I recently published a short story collection titled The Year Spring Turned into Winter. It is available on amazon.com and amazon.co.uk (a little self promotion... why not), and am now working on a series of political thrillers set at the UN in Geneva. A Crocodile Smile is the second in the series.

Crocodile Smile

D I Norris

A Crocodile Smile is the second in a series of UN political thrillers. It is set in Accra, during a UN Trade and Development Conference.

What really goes on inside the UN and its Organizations? How effective are they?
Who works there and what do they do? Now, through this political thriller series, you can get behind the
scenes and deep into the intrigues of the UN and its organizations world-wide.

A Crocodile Smile is set in Accra, Ghana during a UN Trade and Development Conference. Jonathan Knight, an experienced and cynical British diplomat, arrives in Accra and meets Melanie, a fascinating but married American delegate, who believes she can change the world.

Against the backdrop of the crisis in food prices and collapsing financial markets, growing income disparities and tensions between developing and developed countries, this clash of political and social views leads to a most unlikely relationship.

A string of murders of African delegates turns this international conference, the biggest that Ghana has ever hosted, into a pressure-chamber in which political agendas and moral values clash.

Political barters and deals struck behind the scenes by foreign governments are an everyday occurrence at the United Nations. The author, who attended this conference in April 2008, decided to weave its story into this imaginary (yet quite realistic) political thriller.

Hello Rocky, Am putting your book on my watch list to read and comment - it would be great if you'd find the time to do the same for A Crocodile Smile. Looks like your book is a good read - good luck with it! D I view book

Hello Nicky - Great opening. Towards the end of the first chapter, you start repeating yourself - "I should have thought...", "It didn't occur to me..." - you have said that in the previous paras, and all I want to know is what happens next. I am not sure you really need the last two paragraphs ... view book

Great opening, Jason. The first-person narrative pulls the reader in, and pushes them along. Where I started getting a bit stuck was on the "In high school there was no one..." bit - too much information, to digest, too early in the book. Keep me curious, make me want to know more about this man,... view book
