about me
Hi to everyone here on this site!
I am 40 years old, well, young, and live in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England.
I spent 14 years working as an International Buyer, and have spent the last five working part time as a Company Secretary, but I also have my own business, as predominantly, I am an Artist.
I suppose creative writing and Art are similar, hence my desire to write!
I have just completed my Fine Art Diploma, and want a new challenge. I've always wanted to write, but never plucked up the courage, until recently.
I had the most vivid dream about writing a book, and I even dreamed of the title! I saw it as a sign, and every night since, I've been writing my 1st ever novel, which I completed on the 24th Feb 09.
I first uploaded my (1st) Novel on here in 2009, and have left it. I wasn't happy with it at all, and so I left it for a LONG time.
I've only just come back to it, with fresh eyes, and I hate it. It is just SO shallow.
Soooo....I'm re-writing it. I have just completed chapter eight, and I "think" I am happy with it so far (that could change of course!!). It had already been professionally edited, so I ensured that I tried to comply with the edits, but may have made a few mistakes. In fact, I probably HAVE made more than a few mistakes, but I'm going to load the chapters I have finished, and would REALLY REALLY appreciate your honest critique.
I don't mind if you don't like it, or you think my writing is total poop, if you think that, please say so, as it will only help me see my mistakes, and hopefully help me become a better writer. Thank you :o)
Re the Novel -
Although "Back in the Summer of '96" is a 'Chick Lit', and therefore mainly aimed at the female reader, it should be enjoyed by anyone who enjoys watching shows like Sex in the City, or who reads books by Adele Parks, Janet Evanovich, or even Jackie Collins! (Although there isn't nearly haf as much sex or scandal in my book as what JC would write!).
I hope you enjoy reading it. I certainly enjoy writing, and so enjoyed developing the characters and their personalities and their friendships and loves....it's addictive!
All I ask is, if you don't like my work, please respond with constructive criticism, as that will only help me become a better writer (I hope!), whereas negative comments without an explanation, won't! Thank you :)
I've had some lovely reviews from some really nice people (thank you!), I copied and pasted this one as even though I love all the praise (don't we all!), I love this one -
...."We all would like to write like our favourite authors but you have a style of your own and a voice so never flinch from expressing it. We need a Hannah Dunham like we need a Charles Dickens. Everyone counts.
Will support your book with pleasure.

Touching Bottom..."
Thanks Rick!!
Thanks for stopping by :)

favourite books
All time favourites - Daphne' Du Maurier's "Rebecca" and "Jamaica Inn", and Laura Hillenbrand's "Seabiscuit" (I loved this book about this beautiful horse so much, I have several editions, the film, a dvd of his match races, and several photo's. I've even drawn and painted him!).
I also love anything by James Patterson, Patricia Cornwell, Kathy Reichs, and almost all "chick lit" novelists like Sophie Kinsella for instance.
"Ps. I love you" is one of my favourites :)
