The Girl on the Swing is now in print and e format and has already sold over 1000 copies.

After putting it on hold for much of last year, when it was shortlisted to the top 4 with a literary publisher, I eventually decided to self-publish under my own imprint, Standing Stone Press, in association with the literary collective, Year Zero Writers.

The Cat and the Cathedral (Boo....

Ali Cooper

A lost cat, underground tunnels, a secret pagan ceremony, then a murder outside the cathedral. Who can be trusted?

When Lucy and her friends try to rescue a cat, they find themselves following it down Medieval tunnels, emerging in the cathedral. Here, in the middle of the night, they witness a secret pagan ceremony. And to make it more sinister, a few hours later, a man is found murdered out in the cloister. The friends confide in the charismatic Canon Amanda Holdright who persuades them not to tell the police what they've seen.

The mystery deepens when the police fail to identify the victim or to find the murder weapon. The teenagers have theories about both of these things. But who can they trust?

The first of a series of YA fantasy novels, set against a factual backdrop of Exeter's underground passages and its cathedral which contains more images of the pagan, Green Man, than it does of Jesus.

The first chapters are uploaded for friends to read. You are welcome to read them for your enjoyment but I am not playing games or entering into reciprocal reads.

The Girl on the Swing

Ali Cooper

Julia believes that she has lived before. Then she meets someone she knew in a previous existence and their lives entwine, past and present.

Julia believes that she has lived before. From early childhood she has seen glimpses of previous lives. But they have always remained safely in the background.
Then her son dies, and, at the same time, Julia is wrongly blamed for a patient's death and is suspended from her job as a doctor. Suddenly her past lives offer an escape from her troubles in the present.
For the first time, Julia meets someone whom she recognises from a previous existence. But this man is a murderer, convicted of killing his wife.
Gradually, past and present entwine, culminating in a dramatic conclusion.

hi Michael. this is a very readable book with a strong voice. I've already backed it. I've had a look at the first 3 chapters and I'm just going to throw some ideas for you to consider. they're not criticisms. apologies if I get anything wrong - I hate this system where you lose the comment if you g... view book

hi Heidi, OK, firstly I'm going to back this because it has some readability quality that I can't quite put my finger on. now I'm going to suggest a few things in the first chapter that might just be my personal preference but which you could consider. some may be a US/UK thing. I think you'd get aw... view book

Hi Al. I see that you say you write women's fiction and I'm not sure if you're putting this into that category. for me it feels like the formulaic reads in paperback that I don't read myself. If you want to go down that road then that's fine because I know there's a ready market (tho I'm not sure wh... view book

Hi Martin. a quick look because my eyes still hurt. I think if you are going to standardise headings - which, when you've got an entire book of these observations I think will be necessary - that you must include the same headings in every chapter. otherwise it's just a bit organised than it was bef... view book
