about me

Prefer non-fiction but enjoy fantasy and general fiction with historical content or themes.

The quality and diversity of the works here is remarkable - some of my favorite books are well outside my regular interest (fantasy, history). A neat place to be an author AND a reader.

To fellow authors, If I don't reply right away, I just need time to read it before providing halfway intelligent feedback. I withhold specific comments unless you ask me for them or I just plain like your book so much I'll comment anyway. By the same token, I appreciate specific feedback and take it seriously since it means you took time making the effort to think them through and post them

The following story began as a working draft but thanks to the suggestions of others, has changed for the better since I posted it exactly couple weeks ago. I. This was meant to be a purely fun tale to lighten the holidays. If you enjoy it, good enough for me!

Merry Christmas to you all!

favourite books

War and Peace (really) , Wizard of Earthsea trilogy, A Distant Mirror, the Guns of August, Justinian's Flea, Engine of God, Watership Down, Shardik, DUNE, LOTR trilogy, Empires of the Sea, A World Lit only by Fire, the 900 Days, Guns, Germs and Steel, Empires of the Word, Peoples of the Book.

Shogun, Sarum and Iberia (three books which set the bar for what a historical epic should be IMO)

skimmed around beside chptr 6 to get a feel of the context. To be honest, it was neither graphic nor gratuitous - more so could be said about "love-making" scenes. There was a surrealistic rhythm , dream-like quality, nightmarish from her point of view (dream-like from his as we see in later chapt... view book

Your fertile imagination has conjured a deeply philosophical work - Gulliver's Travels meets Soylent Green! Funny, suspenseful, evocative and horrifying, humor mixed with pathos - it is one thing to personify animals, more rare to do so ordinary items and turn them into a social commentary on ... view book

Truly disturbing and unsettling, yet completely riveting. A strong premise about a boy who is unequipped in practical matters (learning by reading how-to books, I can relate) and struggles to survive in a collapsed world, the Bubonic Plague in the 21st century? You are smart to keep the country, t... view book

Hard to put down! I take back my earlier comment about Rain Man, this is much different and Tom Cruise is not there to have a change of heart and rescue Abel.I cannot relate to the more well-versed readers about Abel's POV but it seems authentic enough to me as a general reader, this is enough of... view book

Ian, Fast-paced, great read: reminds me of Patterson with the short, tight chapters. Im at chapter 10 and still going. You clearly enjoy and have both familiarity and have researched Punic history. I am also a fan of the "underdog" Carthaginians and the prologue was both chilling yet true: both th... view book
