about me

Kiwi nesting in Hong Kong for now.
My nan was a children's story writer and I always wondered through the years, could I do that?

As a kid, I lived the life of Huck Finn in rural New Zealand and this book is a respectful nod to those adventures.

Cousin Felicity and the Eels of Misty Point is my first book and is complete at 28000 words. Fourteen chapters uploaded here.
Cover by Dee Densmore D'Amico

Simple shelving policy: I back books I enjoy
Happy to return reads/review. Please give me a gentle nudge if I have forgotten to return a read:)

Nearing final edits on CF so would love any feedback on my later chapters (7-14) Authonomy has been amazing in helping to polish the early ones.

NB: Two new chapters added on Authonomy

Cousin Felicity and the Eels....

Kaal Kaczmarek

Dead animals. Shadowy neighbours. Mysterious guests. This is no ordinary summer on the farm at Misty Point.

Daniel's ongoing war with his sister Sophie is interrupted by the arrival of his glamorous cousin, Felicity.

In turn, Felicity's dramatic entrance is quickly overshadowed and overtaken by sinister events unfolding on the farm.

Feathery friends lie dead. Daniel's family is under threat.
Who can he turn to in these dark Summer days? Stroppy Sophie? Pouty Felicity? Slobbery Lucky?

Shadowy suspects are everywhere in Misty Point's sleepy valleys -but is the perpetrator closer than they think?

A suspenseful, playful comedy thriller for MG, YA and FY (Forever Young) readers.

A CHIRG Review, Thought I'd stop by for a couple of chapters and was mightily impressed. There's energy, personality and rhythm in your writing that carries the reader along effortlessly. The characterisation is great -particularly Bart and Christopher. Bart's character is quite fascinating -he... view book

kia ora Jo, Just read through chapter one and I liked the originality of the opening with the real vs. Da's exaggerated versions. It plays out a bit like Gabriel Garcia's Marquez's structure in some of his writing. Some strong imagery and I like details such as a sock filled with money - they add... view book

Kia ora Andrew, Read through the first chapter and was impressed by the world you have crafted in this story. I lived in Japan for four years and also found the ninja stories and history to be fascinating. You've got the Japanese tone just right -there's a sense of solemnity and nobility in the n... view book

A very charming story, Ronnie. You instinctively know the things that are important to children at this age agroup and you include a lot of sensory imagery that kids will relate to and love. Your dialogue is very natural and I liked the way the story unfolded - kids that age are a little hesitant to... view book
