about me

I love books to the point of obsession and pretty much eat them up.

I live and work in Glasgow. My most favourite possession in the whole world is my Kindle, I could quite happily be deserted on an island for a lifetime as long as i had it with me.

I'm not a deeply intellectual person, I can't spout literary quotes from famous authors. Why do I write? I am a fanatical reader who, over a period of time, had an abundance of ideas manifest itself and I felt the need to start writing it all down. Hopefully, someone out there will enjoy my stories

I joined to get some constructive feedback from readers and other writers so feel free to leave me your comments, thoughts or suggestions.

Both pieces I have on authonomy are works in progress. The second (The Storyteller....)was an idea that came to me recently and wouldn't stop bothering me so I had to start writing some of it down and it came out very easily. I've been wanting to write a historical/adventure/romance/drama piece and the new one fits that remit. I want to know what you think.

I actively seek out stories that interest me and appeal.

If you want to get in touch you can email me mrssarakelly@hotmail.co.uk

favourite books

I am a real sucker for a forbidden love story but not necessarily happy endings. And when i need a lift and something light hearted i'll go for some chick lit. Also love a ripping good paranormal tale or a twisty thriller. Currently enjoying historical romance mixed with a bit of paranormal.

There are so many, but a few that stand out are:

Pride and Prejudice
One Day by David Nicholls
Nineteen Eighty four
Of Mice and Men
Little Women
Flights of Love by Bernard Schlink
Cloud Atlas
A discovery of witches

Some of my favourite authors are:

Deborah Harkness
Elizabeth Noble
Jodi Picoult
Anita Shreve
Cecelia Ahern
Stephenie Meyer
Philipa Gregory
Charlaine Roberts
Jane Austen
Emily Bronte
David Mitchell
Nicholas Sparks

A Tender Bloody Vengeance

Sara Kelly

Taryn doesn't want the husband Pa has chosen. Unwilling to accept, Taryn runs away from one problem straight into another, and dangerous bloody vengeance.

1692 Glencoe, Scotland

Taryn has lived a relatively quite life, helping her Pa and brother work the land of the family farm at the foot of Glencoe. On the verge of turning 18, Taryn is of marrying age and her Pa wants to find her a husband. Something that Taryn does not agree with.

The arrival of Captain Robert Cambell and his kinsman at Chief Alistair MacDonald's keep sets in motion a series of tragic events that will take no consideration of what anyone wants.

Devastation forces Taryn to flee and is set on a dangerous path with an unwanted accomplice. She soon finds that the tales she once took delight in telling are rife with danger and misdeeds. With no sense of where to go or who to trust, Taryn is pushed to her limits and forced to live out tales that she never dreamt had any real grounding in reality.

The prospect of a husband is the least of Taryn's problems.

Author's note: This is a WIP, still pretty raw around edges. All comments or feedback welcome. Preferably constructive!

Lonely Shores

Sara Kelly

Heather left Sandwick when she was 18, but ten years later she has to go back and confront the past she has tried to bury.

Heather is fixated on starting a family with her husband. It is an obsession born of a tragic secret from her past that has a grip on her, and threatens to destroy her marriage. Her life is crumbling around her. Some devastating news shakes Heather to the core with devastating consequences, giving her the wake up call she needs.

Heather has to go home to the Scottish Island she grew up on, back to the cottage on Sandwick beach she grew up in. She is forced to confront her fears. Heather is haunted by her mistakes, her past, and the secret she is deperatly trying to keep. But most of all she is confronted with the harsh decisions she needs to make if she is to have any kind of future.

Author's Note: Currently doing some re-working on what is already posted. Clearing up grammar, semi-colons, un-needed commas etc.... There are more chapters but I'm not entirely happy with them as yet so I wont post them just now.

CHapter 1 - Prologue great, short, intiguing, imaginative, descriptively brilliant. Only thing, I agree with one of your other comments, i dont think the last sentence is needed 'Dahlia Brim was dead'. I think it would be better to work it into the sentence before e.g., '...tried to scream, i... view book

I found your piece of work amusingly tragic, and haunted me days after reading. As if living in Birkenhead, being a social retard, and teetering on a mental precipice is not bad enough, the poor sods life couldn't get any worse, he has to start working in a call centre, enough to push anyone over... view book

Hi Julie I really liked the outline description of your work. I think it has a lot of promise. However, I think you need to do more work on your first chapter. There are a few areas where I would think about reworking the order to hook the readers in. As an opener I would think about startin... view book

Hi Elise I finally managed to clear some time to sit down and read the full book (which is a first for me on Authonomy, I don't usually read full manuscripts on here.) Hi Chrysta I wondered if you were still writing 'Hearts Desire'? I stumbled across it today and was immediately drawn into Ariana's world.
