about me

I have completed two books and have another three that are nearly finished. If I had to classify myself as an author, I would say that I write adventure and fantasy. The worlds I create always have a little bit of magic. Ultimately, I want my readers to get caught up in the story and to fall in love with the characters. It's not high literature and it's not trying to be. I want to offer pure escapism to a world that sorely needs it.

Taming the Sun

Daniel Westrahan

A fantasy epic set in Ancient Egypt.

Based loosely upon the mythological exploits of Horus and Seth, this novel follows the bitter rivalry of two princes, twin heirs to the throne of Egypt. After an attempt on his life, Usara Djedra finds himself outcast and amongst enemies. He must now choose either to turn his back on his birthright and begin a new life amongst the tribes of the Eastern Desert, or to return and confront his brother for the throne. Yet even the gods are not silent and it soon becomes clear that Djedra's own fate is bound up with that of a young servant who saved his life. As Djedra battles with the possibility of his own divinity, he is forced to ask the question: is there more than meets the eye to the servant-boy who tamed the Sun?

The Last Castle

Daniel Westrahan

A post-apocalyptic sci-fi thriller that asks if there is anything left to fight for.

In a post-apocalyptic landscape where science has taken refuge in a single city and the wastelands are ruled by a mysterious race called the Unrat, Kailan Malik is about to discover that the secrets of this divided land have been locked inside his own mind. Unless he can unlock them in time, humanity will begin its long descent into self-destruction.

Dragonfly Curfew

Daniel Westrahan

Swashbuckling adventure as a rag-tag group of treasure-hunters set sail for the New World only to end up embroiled in politics and murder.

When Julia Diega inherits a ship, The Dragonfly, after her husband's death, she is not content to continue trading the tea routes to the East, but is convinced that, with the right companions, she will be able to undertake the dangerous sea-voyage to the Americas. As a part of her crew, she purchases a slave who claims to be a native of those gold-rich lands. He will act as their guide as they leave the colonies of Panama and head south into the Amazonian jungle. But no-one foresees that their guide is a wanted man and that he is leading them into the political intrigues of an empire on the brink of collapse.

Hi Elaina, Backed. Fabulous writing! I would like to simply use some superlatives, but, since I have always promised constructive criticism when I leave comments, I will try to be more precise than simply saying it was wonderful (which it was). First off, the opening is a lovely hook. The image of ... view book

Hello, The journal is written in a lovely style that really captures the main character's voice. On the whole, it makes for a very enjoyable read, though I think the decision to make the whole thing into a journal is quite a brave one since there is inevitably an element of repitition in people's d... view book

Hi, A very enjoyable read, great dialogue and a good pace. I twigged that it was for young adults before I went back and looked at the cover because the writing is fairly simplistic. In fact, I wouldn't mind such a rollickingly good story for adults, but your writing style reflects your target au... view book

Hi Jamie, I'd read some of the comments before I started on your novel, so wasn't 100% sure of what I would find. It's interesting that you proclaim a lack of belief in your work. I won't judge it in light of that. I intend to look at it on it's own merits. First off, I think he idea is great. In ... view book

Hi, This makes for a very action-packed beginning. The story is rich and eventful, though I felt it was sometimes let down by an overly-casual written style e.g. there's a point where it says that Sarah "could not just sit and feel sorry for herself," which paints the picture of a spoilt child or s... view book
