A fictionalized novel of the last six months of Jonestown
Jungle Rot” is a novel based on actual events that took place in the six months up to and ending in the mass murder/suicide in Guyana in November of 1978.
The book takes place in both San Francisco and in “Andersonville,” the” jungle paradise” created by Andrew Anderson. The story follows six characters, as they live out these last months, and make their various accommodations to the choices that have brought them here. “Jungle Rot” is indeed fiction, but fiction based on months of research and interviews with dozens of actual Jonestown survivors. Each character is closely based on those both living and dead. I have chosen six powerful individuals to chronicle those tragic last months of life and death in an isolated American outpost.
