about me

I hope you'll consider reading and backing As The Twig Is Bent. I believe it is a unique, well-written book, deserving of more attention than it has received so far. If you do back the book, please be so kind as to tell a friend or two to also support it.
I would be more than happy to exchange looks and backings (if honestly deserved on either end) and would really appreciate both. That's it! That's my plea. Thanks for reading.

I was a sportswriter for the Passaic-Clifton, NJ Herald News, as well as a freelance advertising copywriter. I've authored 5 books, including three novels, a humorous guide to divorce for men, and a fishing primer for parents and adults. I was a professional fly-fishing guide on the Beaverkill River in the Catskill Mountains of New York State.
My most recent novel is Opening Day, which follows on the heels of As The Twig Is Bent. They are the first two of the Matt Davis Mystery Series. I am presently writing the third book in the series, Twice Bitten, which involves Pentecostal snake handlers. I will have a preview up by the end of October 2011.

Opening Day was published on April 1, 2010 to coincide with the opening day of trout season in New York State, the setting for the story. It is available in paperback from CreateSpace, and as a Kindle book.

Opening Day

Joe Perrone Jr.

Young girls are coming through a small Upstate New York fishing village...but, they aren't all coming out--alive! Learn the gruesome secret in Opening Day.

Following a close brush with death as an NYPD homicide detective, Matt Davis takes early retirement, and accepts what appears to be a cushy position as Chief of Police of a three-man department in a small, rural Upstate New York village. While out fishing on his favorite stream on the opening day of trout season, he stumbles across the remains of a body, barely recognizable as a human being, apparently murdered approximately six months earlier. With no real evidence—no clothing, no identification, and no clues—it’s up to Matt to not only find the murderer, but to identify the victim as well.
Woven throughout the story, are examinations into the pasts of three possible victims, all moving inexorably toward their unknown destinies. But, in the end, it’s the revelation of the unlikely killer’s identity that will shock this tight-knit community to its very core, and leave the reader begging for more.
Opening Day is the second in the Matt Davis Mystery Series, and picks up where As the Twig is Bent left off.

Escaping Innocence (A Story of....

Joe Perrone Jr.

A recently-widowed lawyer receives an invitation to a college reunion, but deciding whether or not to attend is more difficult than he can imagine.

When David Justin first receives an invitation to the fortieth reunion of his college class, his initial reaction is "sure; why not?" But he is conflicted by the agonizing imagery of his wife's recent death in an automobile accident (for which he holds himself responsible). To compound matters, there are other memories, and slowly he is forced to recall another unfulfilled relationship, albeit many years ago and forgotten - that is, until now.
Escaping Innocence is an evocative examination of the journey from adolescence to adulthood set in the magical decade of The Sixties. In it you'll meet David Justin, an Italian-Catholic, height-challenged youth, desperately trying to escape the bonds of sexual repression and adolescent innocence that we all experienced in our youth. Filled with a cast of universal characters and experiences, Escaping Innocence is at once poignant and hilarious, and guaranteed to touch every emotional chord you possess.

As the Twig is Bent

Joe Perrone Jr.

A serial killer rapes and strangles women in NYC. The hook? He meets them in Internet sex chat rooms. To die for.

Complete at approximately 78,000 words - GOOD NEWS! I HAVE JUST UPLOADED THE FINAL 15 CHAPTERS.

Someone is raping and strangling women in the Chelsea District of New York City. The only clues: a signature heart carved into each victim's breast (inside are the initials "J.C." and those of the deceased); copies of the New Testament (with underlined passages referring to infidelity); and fingerprints of a juvenile arrested in the 1960s. Matt Davis, a plodding but effective NYPD homicide detective (hopelessly addicted to fly fishing - and chocolate) and his one-quarter Mohawk Indian partner, Chris Freitag, to whom he owes a long-standing debt of gratitude, must solve the riddle before more women are murdered.

"As the Twig is Bent" is an explosive thriller that rips the lid off the sordid underbelly of the world of Internet sex chat rooms, and propels the reader on a no-holds-barred journey toward its bone-chilling conclusion.

CAUTION: CONTAINS SEXUALLY EXPLICIT LANGUAGE THAT MAY BE INAPPROPRIATE FOR SOME READERS.

A "Real" Man's Guide To Divorc....

Joe Perrone Jr.

A humorous look at a serious subject w/ good advice with a wry twist of humor. Now #82 bestseller Amazon sex & marriage.

A "Real" Man's Guide to Divorce is a humorous look at divorce from an admittedly one-sided perspective. Author Joe Perrone Jr exposes the myths and fallacies of this most painful experience in a lighthearted manner that will leave you in stitches.

Written nearly 30 years after the author's own "near death experience," the book is filled with sage advice about everything from how to choose an attorney (if you must) to the ten telltale signs that your marriage is nearing the end. And don't miss the glossary of legal terms relating to divorce; there's one meaning that counts and another just to make you laugh.

If you are a man facing divorce, or a man who has survived the "ultimate divide," you must add A "Real" Man's Guide To Divorce (First, you bend over and...) to that special "reading room" in your home.

WARNING: Not for the faint of heart (just in case you're a woman...or a divorce attorney).

Frightening situation, well described, that could certainly be real. I very much enjoyed the three chapters I read. One small nit: the word is "waist," not waste, two-thirds the way down the page of chapter 3. Excellent writing, especially the dialogue, which I prize highly. Backed with pleasure... view book
