about me

I am, first and foremost, a lover of books. I like to read, probably more than I like to write, but I think that reading is a very important activity for a writer. I read a lot of things, but my far and away favorite is historical fiction--especially anything set during the Dark Ages in Europe. I hope one day to join the ranks of the greats like Bernard Cornwell, Robert Low, Conn Iggulden, and Harry Harrison and spend the rest of my years publishing good Viking yarns.

I'm also a lackluster college student on the long road to finishing my history degree, and I have an online bookstore . One day I hope to have my own used bookstore so I can spend my days reading and selling books--pretty much what I do now, but on a bigger scale. In my spare time I study kung fu, the kunst de fechten Lichtenauer-style, cook, read Viking books, and do research for my novel.

About messages and reading swaps--I will do my very best to reply to every person who is kind enough to leave a comment on my profile or book. However, in just my short time on the site, I can already see how very overwhelming reading every single person's book who comments on mine is going to be--so if I don't get to yours, please accept my heartfelt thanks for taking the time to comment on my work. Also, please be aware that while I will do my very best to read and comment on books, I will only back those I find to be quality writing. It wouldn't really be fair to just back all the books I read, as that completely moots the point of the system. Thanks!

favourite books

Bernard Cornwell's Saxon Series, Conn Iggulden's Genghis Khan series, Tim Severin's Viking series, Harry Harrison's Hammer and Cross series, The Last Light of the Sun by Guy Gavriel Kay, A Song for Arbonne by Guy Gavriel Kay, and my absolute favorite is Dune by Frank Herbert.

I'm hooked in on your first chapter. Good setting, good premise. You have some minor issues with grammar, especially in your dialogue. Some minor editing should tidy that up, no problem. Backed for its potential. Nice work. Meg view book

What I like about this is how polished the prose is. Your details are spare and exacting. If you've never been a footballer, you fooled me. It's obvious you've spent a lot of time and care going over your work, and I think that does good things for your book. Backed with pleasure. I always love r... view book

I have to say that I love the subject matter and the atmosphere, but I have to cry comma abuse. Try reading your pages aloud to yourself. Do you pause for breath at every three words? Try to write the way you would talk if you were telling a story to your family or something at a campfire. Read your... view book

Even though I'm an adult, I'm quite enjoying reading your book. I especially love Cedwyn, spot on for an annoying seven-year-old little brother. Nice work. :) Meg view book

Your subject matter has a lot of potential, and the setting is rich. You've obviously done some research and have a good deal of detail working to your benefit. That being said, some examination of your diction and sentence structure would be very helpful. Watch out for fragments. They take away fro... view book
