about me

I'm a typical middle-aged bloke with middle-age spread and a mid-life crisis. I suppose that's why I'm trying to write a novel, lol. (I'm the guy in the dark top in the photo.)

If you're only going to read one book on Authonomy, then it should be 'Hing Dai - Brothers' by Steve Hawgood. :-)

favourite books

I mainly enjoy fantasy and sci-fi (the kind of stuff I don't write, basically) but like a wide range of different books. Examples are: Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series, Peter Hamilton's Commonwealth Saga, Sue Townshend's Adrian Mole books and Charlotte Bronte's Jane Eyre (yeah, I know the last one's a bit of an odd one out. I don't think the passing of a hundred and fifty years can destroy the influence of a work of genius)

'The volley fired by a young Virginian in the backwoods of America set the world on fire,' said Sir Horace Walpole. So, what really happened?

Young George Washington approaches his first battle full of trepidation. He has his whole life ahead of him, or does he? Tobias Craven would rather be in a nice, cosy tavern back in Alexandria, but no, fate has dragged him out here to this Godforsaken wilderness where he must follow Washington into a struggle that will begin with a volley fired in the remote woodlands and culminate with the commencement of the first true world war.

Great stuff! I read your opening chapter and premise and thought it was very well paced and interesting. There are plenty of hooks in your opening, such as the Major's obvious dislike of the victims (presumably he will emerge as the leader of the Survivors) and the question of whether the cure wi... view book

Hi again! Unexpectedly, I found some time today to read chapter one. Here are my thoughts:- The Afridi tribe are more famous as a border tribe, and have clans on both side of the Khyber Pass. The area they inhabit is that which is considered a nogo area by Pakistani authorities within the FATA... view book

Hi! I've just read your prologue and thought I'd let you know I found it exceedingly well written: well paced, full of interesting hooks (like Li's order from Wu to kill/maim Wang and the mention of Operation Kashgar in the concluding sentence) The premise of your novel sounds most interesting... view book

I love the way you show your future, your new, shocking reality, through the eyes of the survivors (or victims). This is really good stuff. On the downside, and it's only a small downside, I think that having a wank in the opening paragraph will tend to put off a lot of people who won't therefore... view book
