about me

Tall, verbose, underachiever. Bad taste in wine.
Once won an episode of 'The Weakest Link' (no, really).

I only back books that I genuinely like. Asking me to back your book so you'll give money to charity/back mine in return rather defeats the whole point of having Editor's Desk, no?

'Bait' is my very first writing effort.

This is what folks on Authonomy are saying about it:

"Fantastic story with great pace ...characters jump off the page - fine writing."

"It's arousing to the imagination."

"It's pacy, with gorgeous settings, naturalistic dialogue, intrigue..."

"You got me, hook, line, and nervous breakdown. The pacing is fast. The settings perfectly described without being a travel guide."

Thanks to all who have made such encouraging comments, and thanks to those who've spotted inconsistencies and omissions. Keep it coming!

I will do my best to read, comment and back those who have done so for me. Thanks!

Bait

L J Barber

A penchant for breaking the rules plummets Rebecca Page head-first into a deadly world of espionage, terrorism and revenge.

Rebecca's an ordinary girl with an extraordinary talent - no computer system is safe when she sets her sights on it.

Thanks to breaking one too many rules, her little secret is now out and she is approached by an elite British black ops team in dire need of her skills. In order to save countless lives, she must undertake a crash course in espionage and go deep under cover in a terrorist cell to retrieve stolen data.

All, however is not quite what it seems. As she dives deeper, more and more evidence points to her being a pawn in a twisted revenge plot - a personal vendetta with her as the bait.

Thundering from London to the shifting sands of Yemen via St Petersburg, 'Bait' follows Rebecca into a world where even her closest confidante is someone she can no longer take at face value. Is she truly working for good - engaged in saving hundreds of deep-cover operatives from having their cover blown - or is her talent being abused by criminal power brokers in a game she can't hope to control?

Nicely descriptive prose - cracking pace. Backed. view book

Good characterisation, nice imagery. I agree with an earlier comment that you need to separate your sections into shorter chapters. One niggle - you need to either put Hayley's thought 'Why couldnt' he give me that look of sweet love?' into italics to show it's her internalised thought, or make ... view book

I'm not usually a fan of period writing, but this has crackling humour to keep it moving, and some really likeable, well-drawn characters. Backed. view book
