about me

I'm not a lucky person. I know, this may sound odd, to make this claim, and I guess the only way I have to clear it up is to write something - but no, I'm an unlucky person. Perhaps that's why I've come here, where many are called but few chosen...my own work is still with the translators.

favourite books

Over the last six months I've handed over money for:
W.G.Sebald - "Vertigo"
M.Proust- "The Way by Swann's" translated L.Davis
' "The Guermantes Way" ' M.Treharne
' "In the Shadow of Young Girls..."James Grieve
Which is the information (I think) HC needs. Some books have driven me mad over the years:
the first part of Genesis (the rest embroidery)-
Anthony Powell's "Afternoon Men" et al;
T.E.Lawrence "Seven Pillars of Wisdom" and of course anything by Jane Austen.

"It's only when you are at rock bottom that god lets you into the nooks and caves to glimpse those characters" I hope that's true David. I want to believe it. Your writing makes the sparks fly! view book

This is a story about racism set in contempory UK. From my reading of the first chapter or so, it's obvious to me that Freddie Omm can write, and write well. The first scene, introducing Rania and her brother Faraz is direct and sharp writing. But it's as though the fictional enormity of R... view book

Michael, I saw your forum thread and had a very quick read - hope you don't mind a speed-review on the last day of the month. It's a nice read too, and I think your writing ticks all the boxes. I thought the "adjoint" could have been made more of a de Charlus figure and this points to perhaps a lac... view book

It's a difficult piece of writing Nick, by necessity, given the theme. Because it's my cup of tea, I don't mind. But others might find it easier if you rewrite some of the awkward expressions out. For example, Chap 2: "They cry like the children of grossly negligent parents" could be improved, even... view book

A real pleasure to read Hariklia's story Kostas. It's as well built as Mr Andreas' house. I like the expressions that let me feel the "taste" of the original language and I hope you don't let anyone persuade you to remove them - even if they are unfamiliar to an English speaker. From the first s... view book
