about me

I enjoy writing as much as I do reading. If I was as good at one as I am at the other, it would help my costs at the book shops immeasureably. :(

I have 2 works in progress and a million times that on odd scraps of paper or drifting aimlessly around in my head. Sigh, perhaps one day I shall complete something and be contented. Until then, I remain happy with reading, and wish all here, good luck and I hope all your dreams come true.

BTW, if you love a saucy read... you'll love Blood Moon by Deborah Brown!

Dark Disciple

Andrew Williams

Dark Disciple is the first in a fantasy trilogy - Dark Son. Nothing is as it seems as magic weaves a fabric across time.

Remus is a Prince born on the wrong side of the bed.

Born black into a white family and the progeny of a dalliance between the Matriarch, Queen Liss, and an unknown stranger, he is sent away at an early age to study with an Academy of Magicians.

Twenty years later he returns.

Commissioned to teach his half-sister the arts of magic and fighting, he takes up his post while keeping to an agenda known only to him and the Academy. His true identity hidden, he quickly learns about his family which leaves him with more questions than answers.

Together with, Lianne, his lover and fellow Black Robe, they soon become involved in a world of black sorcery and dark magics, of political intrigues and power plays. All of which leads back to his family.

But something else threatens the land. And the closer Remus gets, the further from the truth he seems to be. Finally, in a confrontation in which the very existence of humanity relies, it all boils down to the actions of one person… the Dark Son.

In a rich mediaeval setting, Dark Disciple explores fantasy and reality in a brutal and confronting, but often humorous manner.

Beautfully done, the first chapter. Charming, imaginative and with just enough exposure to keep me reading. What a lovely opening. :) I hope you retain your spot this month in the top five, Gordon. Deservedly so! On my BS for the remainder of the month and liberally sprinkled with stars. ... view book

I think this is the first time I've read the sun referred to in the feminine gender. Quite different, James. I love the premise that the opening offers... and lives up to. The spike is nicely placed and holds the attention even after the scene fades. There is a careful blend of emotions that the... view book

This is a very unusual read, David. There are complexities woven throughout the story made up of the most simplest things, and yet, where there exists gaps, the whole is made complete with just a little bit of imagination. Amazing really. I do think you over use the ellipses though. Like ... view book

With writing in the 1st person, Ruth, the author needs to be aware of the over emphasis of "I". There's a big tendency to "see" the story through the eyes of the narrator only. If you look at some of the masters of 1st person, they have this wonderful ability to show the story through the eyes of ... view book

I don't think HC will take this one onboard, John. Not in their marketing genre. However they WILL, MAY give you great, well regarded exposure that a smaller publishing house may pick you up, (short story, humour). It's a viable product for one of them, (and if it proves to be cult driven... the... view book
