about me

Formal education at the hands of The Sisters of The Presentation Order, the Jesuits and the Irish Christian Brothers. Informal education through travel and life experiences, successes and failures as actor, writer, director, soldier, businessman, management consultant, husband, father and grandfather.

Jack Deeney is 77 years old and has served as Partner in two major international management consulting firms, as General Manager of a subsidiary of one of the world's largest financial institutions and has had several businesses of his own. As such, he has traveled and spoken extensively while serving clients on four continents. He is also a combat veteran of The Korean War. (As a source of pride, the Combat Infantryman's Badge he earned in Korea is second only to his wife, his children and his grandchildren.)

He claims that all of this ancient history is relevant to the extent that all writing is autobiographical to some degree. His stories are set principally in places he knows well and loves to revisit (Manhattan, Mexico City, Rome, Montego Bay) and inhabited largely by characters drawn from people he has known and with whom he has interacted.

“I never claimed to be perfect. I thought I made a mistake once, but I was wrong.”

THE POWER AND THE PRICE

JACK DEENEY

Throughout the turbulent 20th Century, in war and peace, in politics and economics, oil has proved decisive. However, its power comes with a price.

When OPEC's attempt to play the "oil card" during the 1967 Six-Days War fails, everyone in Washington concludes there's no future threat. Everyone except the one man in the CIA who understands the oil business and knows it's only a matter of time until OPEC gets it right. He launches a covert plot to undermine OPEC as we follow him on a perilous odyssey through the oil-producing capitals - Caracas, Riyadh, Mexico City, Tripoli, Baghdad - and the most perilous of all, Washington D.C.

READER COMMENTS

“I love the initial impact… engaging from the start - never lets up. The pace fast and furious... a page-turning experience.”

“This author has an obvious wealth of knowledge and experience. It's reflected in the writing. Fascinating stuff.”

“A solid writing talent. The opening in the Oval Office is believable and compelling. The characters are engaging, the tension mounts nicely from chapter to chapter. This is a winner.”

“It grabs our attention straightaway with the scene in the White House. Very realistically and believably written. We feel as if we’re actually there. O'Keefe is a great central character, strong and likable…. The character drawing is expert, the writing clear, readable, gripping. An engrossing book.”

Tim: I appreciate your comment about one of my books. It's the sort of thing that keeps one tapping away. That seems to be the one thing that AUTHONOMY is good for, with all the pandering and begging that goes on. THE POWER AND THE PRICE is something I started 5 or 6 years ago and never reall... view book

Mike: I backed PETROLEUM for several reasons. I was drawn to it initially because its subject, oil, is of great interest to me. I read the first few chapters and was impressed - the pace, the character development, the tone of the piece. It reminded me a bit of Steve Shagan's THE FORMULA which ev... view book
