You cram so much into this first chapter - completely wrap us up in the character's lives and pasts and childhoods, and I was expecting my head to be buzzing from all of the different names, but you manage this really well. Ooh this gets right under your skin from the very first paragraph. Very eerie. Lots of unanswered questions to make me want to read on and a rather nasty beginning which makes me think I'd be hiding the book and making sure all the lights are on, just a little further into it!
