about me

Hi, I live on an island in the Med with my wife Sally, twenty-three cats and a dog called Mop. I also have a daughter Kelly who lives in the UK and is about to get married.

I am into swap reads if I like what I see, but I do tend to read more than the first chapter, sometimes the whole book and would prefer the same.
I will not always shelve, but will always explain why - in the best possible taste, of course.

Now I am going to dive into my pool. Eat your hearts out.

Book one of - The Rose of Gildvadane.

This is the first chronicle of a fantasy trilogy; the story unfolds through mild magic in this first book to dark menacing magic in the third. War and conflict are not the over riding themes of this story – although for those that like a good battle, you will not be disappointed.
Turmoil, romance and humour take our heroes and heroines on a journey of discovery, tragedy and great adventure, which eventually changes all their lives in one way or another.

Some of the kind comments on The Rose of Gildvadane.

Well written and engaging.
It's been sometime since I read such 'classic' fantasy as this.
An absorbing and involving tale.
This was a joy to start reading.
This story cries out to be seen.
It really does get better and better the more one reads.

The Rose of Gildvadane

D. Franklin Thomas

Daric Rin Hydra is a wastrel and a layabout. Is this the stuff of heroes?

Chaos has returned to the world of Oberon, and with it the daemon Val Quajarr.
Caught between the powers of Light and Dark, Daric must decide whether to fight or run. Will the strands of his past lives prove strong enough to change his fate; is he the Golden One, The Eternal Wanderer who tips the balance for good or evil?
The Guardian thinks he is, but She could be wrong. Troodo the dwarf is sure he’s not, and it’s the last thing Daric’s friend Captain Orsey needs.

An epic tale of adventure, turmoil, tragedy and revenge, with a modicum of humour and romance to spice the pot.

The Return to Avalon Hi Ryan, just read your first chapter. In the first paragraph, it would be better if you showed rather than told. Take out the him and he and just show the scene – it will be apparent that it is a dream when Jason wakes up. The rest is fine, but I would change the format – ... view book

Hi Margaret. Read your book ages ago and backed it then, still think it is one of the best so backed it again. Troodo. The Rose of Gildvadane. view book

The Fiddler's Gun A. S. Peterson I managed to read all six chapters without getting a headache, which alone should give you a place on my shelf. However, you also managed to allow the readers to build up their own image of time and place - an art even published authors sadly lack - without block... view book

Hi Jack. I am on chapter four and already confident enough to back your work while I continue reading. I have no idea how this new system works, but if backing you now helps to get you into the top five this month then I am content. I love the Templar era, and feel already that you have captured ... view book
